Wish Jim was still here...
« on: July 31, 2010, 05:05:50 PM »
Hi folks :)

Way back in the mid 70's, There used to be a BBC program Called 'Jim'll Fix It'.
The program for those of you too young to remember or from other parts of the world, went out early evening every Saturday on the BBC.

It was a program where kid's wrote in to this long white haired middle aged hippy guy called Jim, who always had a big fat cigar in his mouth, asking him to make their wish or dream come true. If Jim read out your letter he did indeed make many a kids (and some adults) dreams come true.

Their wishes were anything from a 5 year old wanting to drive an F1 car round Brands Hatch, to a 12 year old little girl wanting to go sky diving with the Red Devils, and anything else their tiny little hearts desired. Jim always made there dreams come true and we all watched with jealous little eyes at all these other kids getting to do things we all wanted to do.

Now what's this got to do with the Amiga you ask.

Well I've often thought that if 'Jim'll Fix It' was still around then I could send him the following letter and make my dream come true...

Dear Jim'll Fix It

Could you please fix it for me to have the Amiga back on top of the computing world again where it truly belongs. You see since the idiots and greedy people at Commodore ran the company into the ground and destroyed the very foundation of our beloved Amiga, the computing world has been taken over by the horrible and nasty Mickysoft PeeCee's and the overpriced overrated Crapple Macs.

Now Jim if you could fix it so that all the great people who developed and created the Amiga could have a nice new factory and technical facilities and unlimited funds, then  myself and all the other true little Amigan's still hiding in the dark corners of cyberspace, could all rush out and buy brand new up to date world beating Amiga's with all our saved up pocket money and put the Amiga back where it belongs as King Of All the Computer World.

Please Jim, Can You Fix It For Me :)

Franko, aged 45 and a bit

What would your Amiga related wish be to Jim...

Cheers :drink:

Franko

Uhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh

Dear Frankie,

Now then, now then,

Thank you for your letter.  Amiga top of the computer world again?  Well here at the Fix-It team we like a good challenge, yes we do, don't we Mr Cigar?  Uhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh.

So we decided to contact the Amiga owners and ask them to get their act together.

Now then, now then,

But to our surprise we can't find them!  Oh dear.  Don't worry though because nobody leaves empty handed now, do they boys and girls?  No sir.

So, here's your Fix-It badge and I've arranged for you to spend an hour in a hotel room with Angelina Jolie, a can of whipped creeam and a bottle of Viagra.

Uhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh-uhhhh-ahhhh!

Dear God,

I didn't think "Jim Could Fix It", so I'm going directly to the top. We need a super miracle greater than the parting of the Red Sea and on par with the raising of the Christ. We need the Amiga community to work together to produce a future. The founding fathers of the Amiga created too good of a computer to let it disappear forever. It would be nice if the masses could see the evil of bloat and turn from their deceived ways. It would also be nice if the abomination would do something about the biggest monopoly ever on this planet instead of picking on the "innocent" big businesses before all the jobs are gone in the U.S. Thanks in advance.

P.S. After further thought, you better get rid of the abomination first or we won't be able to buy any new Amigas here in the U.S. and we will continue to drag the world economy down with us.

and just so that everybody knows what we're talking about (and that we haven't gone mad), here's ex-DJ Sir Jimmy Saville:

and here he is "fixing it" for some kid to meet K9:

This was of course back in the days when it was perfectly OK for childrens' TV presenters to be seen smoking huge cigars in front of families at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon on BBC TV while also sounding completely drunk.

Franko, I hadn't heard of 'jim'll fix it' till now, sounds very cool.
If he were around yet, my Amiga wish would be....

Amiga repair shops.... please!!! Amiga repair available Anywhere .... From New York and London, to Milwaukee, WI (cough, cough) to Glink's Gulch, Montana. Go to a run down store in the ghetto, and see a sign like:

"Cold Beer, Soda, Cigarettes, Caps replaced, Lottery, cases de-yellowed, We accept Food Stamps ...."

Ahh well, I can hope can't I?

"...We accept Food Stamps ...."

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."

-Alexander Tyler

The abomination in the United States grows as we come closer to the end of democracy. The tipping point has been passed as the ignorant and immoral have become the majority. As money is taken away from the successful and given to the failures, so is freedom with the result that everyone will be equally poor and there will be no one to invest in anything better. I always thought that Amiga people were a little smarter than the rest. Apparently, not always.

The scary thing about this post is that it is true and happening as I type this, except the money is not being given to the failures.  The pennies that are given to the poorest, the out of work & the lazy people that don't want to work are nothing compared to the amount being raped from average wage earners and put in corporate officers pockets and pension funds, as well as bribes (both legal and illegal) of one kind or another, salaries and pensions for politicians who keep the whole system running in the same direction (straight to hell) and prevent any real reform from happening and go on with their smoke and mirrors trying to prevent the general public from seeing what is really going on for as long as they can, just so they can try to get their share of the Public Treasure Pie.

The government is run by the corporations and the greedy CEO's are bleeding the country's middle class and sending all the jobs overseas with the result of only the very rich and the poor remaining and revolution the only alternative and it won't be pretty this time.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
