Hi,

I read somewhere that multiview, given the correct datatypes, can display jpeg images and other image and file formats. What I did was I downloaded the jpeg datatype from aminet using the following link:

http://aminet.net/util/dtype/JPEG-DT.lha

However after I install it I still am not able to open JPEG images with Multiview!! I get an error saying;

"Unknown data type for image.jpg"

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Regards,

I used the installer and it told me it required picture.datatype. I downloaded this from aminet. I then installed successfully. However I still get the same error message when I double click on the jpg file.

That Warp datatype is for OS3.5+ and PPC do you have OS3.5 or 3.9 and PowerPC card?
If not use http://aminet.net/package/util/dtype/JpegDataType

Nope. OS3.0 and up; 68k, WarpOS. OS4.x or MorphOS versions. But you need P96 or CGX  or OS 3.5+ picture datatype; P96 one is available in P96 package  http://main.aminet.net/pub/aminet/driver/video/Picasso96.lha .

Thanks, this worked fine :) ... just another question; would quality of the image change if I used one version rather then another of the jpeg datatype?

I know these are old computers we are talking about. However I am just asking this to see if it is normal and if maybe another version of the datatype might improve things.

Basically under WinUAE, the workbench installation I have (which is the same as the one I use on the real hardware [A500+, 8Mb FastRam, 2Mb ChipRam 68000]), if I set the processor as 68030 and "Match A500 speed" option on, the datatype I am using (JpegDataType) seems as if doing nothing, although some fastRam is allocated. However the moment I change the option "Match A500 speed" to "Fastest possible, but maintain chipset timing" the image loads instantly.

As I said I know that the latter option is obviously much faster. However is it normal for a JPEG image to take several minutes to load even on an 030 processor?

A big one might do it; on 060 it could take several seconds for me but I didn't handle very big ones as I was using modem connection. 24bit pictures were slow in every case.  Match A500 speed means 7 MHz 68000 "speed" so it really takes time.

Ok thanks, that is what I wanted to know :) I do not mind it being slow. Just wanted to make sure I installed everything correctly and that there is nothing better.
