I don't own or watch TV. I do follow some TV series though. ;)

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I don't use mainstream media news either. The Real News Network and UK Indymedia are far better services (and not puppet shows for the MODERATED).

I've been on Facebook for a while. I almost have to for promoting band stuff and keeping up with other musicians... It doesn't seem any different to me then posting on Amiga.org or even being on a mailing list group....Just keep private info off of it and your fine. I don't know why people get so worked up about it here?

red,
i think i'm the last one to refuse to use facebook ;)

Nah, I am here with you.  Social networking in and of itself is not an Evil Thing(tm), however, the way Mark "I'm the CEO, Bitch!" Zuckerberg implements it is not only a Bad Thing(tm) but a Dangerous Thing(tm).

I read an article recently about how Facebook is today what AOL was in the 90s.  And I have to agree to a degree.  I will be waiting for the next decade before I jump on-board.

Sounds funny from a guy who used to have all of his legitimate contact information and birthday in ICQ and on his personal web page.  But then, that was the 90s.  The threat landscape has changed drastically since then.

Your information is out there, Facebook or no Facebook. Sad but true.

Yes, and you could still break down my front door or crash through a window to break into my house, but I still lock my doors and windows.  No sense in making it easy for you.

That is not the point. Sites like Facebook are feeding the criminal underground. sStolen accounts ard private info are merchandise and these sites make it so much easier for blackhats to collect data.

Interesting timing, Jim. The alpha geeks (Lapporte, etc.) recently abandoned Facebook, because the company isn“t taking privacy seriously.

I just consider all information I put on Facebook as public. Gone is the problem with privacy.
I do most private things off-line.

greets,
Staf.
Trust me...                                              I know what I\'m doing

I've created a new folder and uploaded 200 more retro related pics. It appears 200 is the maximum per batch.

Neat! Among the pictures is the infamous "confidential" press pack that announces a 4q 1999 release date for OS4 and a 2q 2000 release date for OS5

Haha, for all of you who don't own a TV... Facebook has replaced e-mail and phones for me, I love it. I remember having to keep a stupid paper book around the house with phone numbers and paying out the butt for long distance calls to people to stay in touch. Then came e-mail and all the spam and chain letters that came with it followed by Instant messaging with all of its fake add requests... To me Facebook is the ultimate way to stay in touch with those you care about and those you could care less about.

Here's a news flash too. Unless you don't use a credit card, subscribe to Cable / Satellite TV, subscribe to ANY web services or magazines, "they" already have your information. Staying off of Facebook isn't keeping anyone from getting marketing data off of you, it is just an alternative way of getting it. Small trade off for the ability to keep track of all my ex-girlfriends as they get fatter and fatter each year on Facebook.

Also I run a group for Ami-Express Sysops, stop by if you ever ran an Ami-Express BBS.

Who are 'they'. And what would they be doing with what ever 'they' are collecting. If this 'Facebook' is just another mechansim to peddle adverts directly linked to browsing habits then I'm kinda glad I've never used it. I have a credit card, I have Sky and I subscribe to an Architects Journal. Now what ? Sorry what has that got to do with anything. I don`t get spam mail, don't get junk mail generally, and don`t get bothered by nuisance phonecalls. But then I don`t publish my private details across the internet. That would be very very silly....

Yeah, privacy is not really a great argument, I concede. But when you login to F.B you are a tool. Where do you think the robot revolution will obtain their kill lists from?

A couple of time some friends on Facebook have posted up a warning about peoples phone numbers being accessable. So what? Don't put the numbers up then!
I have no personal worries as I'm living in Spain, have no official address (live with friends), prepay (pay as you go) mobile and a dormant bank account. Clone my ID all you like, see how far you get!
Don\\\'t panic - bite the towel.
