Optical mouse for my A4k
« on: November 28, 2003, 08:00:11 PM »
I'm tired of all the old badly working mice I've had for my A4k. Buttons that doesn't work, buttons that works to well, balls that get stuck and so on... the only Amiga-mouse I've ever been happy with was the one that cam with my A500 from 1987.

On the CP I've spoiled myself with an optical mouse from logitech and I just love it, so I would like to have one for my A4k as well.

What's the easiest and/or cheapest way to make this possible?

It's a "standard" A4kD with cv64/3d, ariadne II, MFC-III and a CS Mk-II 040.
No mediator or other pci board. Not so sure I want to get one either.

I have a mint in box optical mouse designed for Amiga. :-) It's called GoldenGate...something...works like a charm. No need for any conversion. Been thinking of eBaying it or selling it privately.

AFAIK, it was out before any MS PC optical, or similar mice. ;-)

I'd suggest getting one of those MirooCheck devices from Elbox. You would be able to convert your Amiga mouse port to ps2 port, and then use a USB to ps2 converter on it if necessary as well, and you'd be ready for an optical USB mouse. ;-)

Another option would be to get a USB controller/ports for Amiga and a compatible stack, however not worth it IMO if the only thing you need is a mouse.

Eh, this may sound terribly boring but I think I´ve got one in my closet, above my black leather jackets and my cheap t-shirts ... haven´t tried it yet, came with the A1200 PPC that I bought two years ago but somehow still prefer to use the original mouse  ... interested ?? It´s not a Logitech one, just a boring looking Amiga mouse with at the bottom an open space for a optical thing ... it doesn´t have any blue colour with golden dots on it, it´s just plain white ...

Got an Logitech mouseman cordless myself, best mouse I've ever used. Use mine via a Spider II / Mediator, but you could just get a PS/2 mouse adapter from Eyetech and use the PS/2 to USB adapter that comes with the mouse to hook it up - use to have mine set up like this before I got a spider and worked fine.

Eh, an open space for a optical thing? Care to elaborate! :)

I don't really care what it looks like as long as it works!

@Munchin:

If you feel like building it yourself - this solution is rumoured to be very good: Ultimate Amiga PS/2 Wheel Mouse Controller

I bought a mouse adaptor and a keyboard adaptor
from SoftwareHut. I also picked up a switch box
on EBay......... Now I use the same Monitor, Keyboard
and optical mouse on my PC and A3k with just a
flip of a switch. Cleaned up a lot of clutter.
My optical mouse is a $10.00 HP.
I really like it.

Stealth ONE  8-)
