What auction was this?

If it's

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-USB-mouse-adapter-Brand-new-/120814385754?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c21193a5a

The wheel works fine, just need him to email you the drivers and follow the instructions on installing it.

It's this one, and I'll do that!  Would be nice if he just linked to them on the auction.  Maybe I'll ask if he minds if I host them or not.  Though I'm sure it'd be preferred to just have them on aminet.

It's exactly the same as his

Which I also have and wheel works fine with that once the correct drivers are installed and setup as per his instructions.

I was looking at that one too, though couldn't figure out how it'd go into an A4000D.

I sent an email off and the reply was that the wheel will not work on that adapter, but it works on the second one.  So if it would somehow fit inside an A4000D, it would be awesome!  But alas, no luck there...

The instructions / driver that he sent me did not get the mouse wheel to work.

In reading a few things, there was something about needing some sort of wire to connect the adapter to the second joystick port?

Anyone else out there manage to get this adapter to support the mouse wheel through the normal joystick port?  The seller said at first it wouldn't work, but then I mentioned this thread, and he sent me what 'may' work, but it did not.

Since i opened this thread, i have replaced this adapter by another to gain wheel control.

Now, i am looking for an adapter that can work with the RF 2,4GHz dongle from Logitech wireless mouse.

What would be great if there was a USB stack for this so that other USB devices could be plugged in :)

Fixed that for you.  :D

Which adapter worked with the wheel?  I tried this adapter with my Logitech MX1000, but it didn't work.  I didn't try it in the Spider though.

I only want an adapter so I can use my optical mouse in games, so the lack of the wheel through the Amiga joystick port doesn't bother me too much, I just pull the mouse out of the back and put it into the side.

Ha, I meant that the USB mice with mouse wheel only work in workbench friendly applications.  So if I load up Dungeon Master, I have to plug in the USB to 9pin adapter to use the optical mouse, in which case the wheel doesn't work.

As far as saving money on blank disks, get one of these; http://torlus.com/floppy/

P.S. For the record, there are two USB Stacks that I know of.  Poseidon, and ANAIS.  Neither of which would see anything going through this little adapter, which is basically just a PS/2 to 9 pin adapter, with support for USB connections.

I found a homemade looking ps2 adapter in my junk and it is fine with a ps2 to usb adapter and a cables optical logitech mouse and its wheel.

I won't do that live switching of optical mouse. It could kill the CIA  (optical mice need a lot of power).

Of course they won't. It's not an USB controller, just an adapter.

I was just making sure carvedeye knew that.  At first I thought he was being sarcastic, then realized maybe he wasn't, so I wanted to make sure I was clear on that.

I haven't had issues yet.  I'll keep that in mind though.  I thought they only needed 1.5v or something.  Honestly I'm surprised there is any power coming out of that port at all.  Then again I've also always read that you shouldn't hot-plug PS/2 devices into a PC, but I've never had issues with that either.

Anyone else confirm or deny this?  I've heard and read a lot of different things over the years about computer hardware, and a lot of times they're just stating things to be over cautious (like don't smoke around a computer, I first read that in the Atari Mega STe manual, and always wondered why until I saw these; http://www.squidoo.com/cigarette-smoke-computer-damage )

@slaapliedje

That's ok I was just curious, hopefully one day I can get the mediator expansion board as I have all the relevant cards for it including a USB card. :)

Still tempted in getting one of those adapters as my old ps2 mouse is starting to show its age plus if I do use an optical mouse I wont need to clean the innards any more :)

That's why I got the adapter!  So that I didn't have to worry about cleaning the mouse ball.  That and I wanted to use my Aeon mouse with the boing ball on it as my main mouse, it's so much smother in movement than the ball one.
