Viper 1230LC
« on: July 18, 2010, 12:33:23 PM »
I want to try WHDload on my A1200 and picked up a cheap Viper 1230LC with 8Mb since it seems that Whdload needs some extra ram to run nicely (from what I have read).  I do not have the card yet but does anyone know if the 1230LC works correctly with the 3.1 Kickstart ROM?

Thanks,

Mike

But of course! Yeah, you should have no problems with Kickstart/Workbench or WHDLoad outside of the regular tweaks and such. Search the forums if you have questions about WHDLoad installs and how to get certain individual games working if you have problems that way.

On the topic, I looked at WHDLoad recently for the first time, and what a f-----n nightmare of a non-user friendly peice of software. The parameters/switches are not easy to understand, it requires extra bits of software installed to make it run. It was just horrible. I read the docs for a bit, and put it to the side and will try again another time.

Just aweful to get up and running.

WHDLoad comes with everything you need to run except kickstart roms. Just simply download and click install, copy kickstart roms to devs/kickstarts. Your done.

Only complaint I really have ever had with WHDLoad is getting your original physical disks converted to one of their file(s). Then again, I haven't spent a lot of time with the docs either.

-edited in the interest of keeping on topic-

In the case of WHDLoad files, not a terribly big deal because sooner than later - your favorite program turns up on the net and/or someone already took the time to create an installer for you to use with your originals, which has always worked without a hitch for me.

Thanks for the info..  My last question is about the RAM on the 1230.  Will the 8Mb RAM be added to the original 2Mb on board the A1200 for a total of 10mb or will the software only see the accelerators RAM?  Sorry for the simple questions I have never used a accelerator board before.

Yay! Somebody agrees with me. And it is very ROM image picky too, but you didn't get that far, to see that part...
