As the subject says...i have the chance of getting some real cheap 18 gb & 9 gb Seagate Barracuda & Cheetah scsi disks. Those that came with 80 pin connector but also with adaptor. My question is: has anyone of you guys tried one of these with an Amiga? In simple words: are these compatible with Amigas, regarding being hot swap?

I don't know ..............
I was just tring to get a 68 pin 4 gig Fujitsu drive
to work in my A3k. Wasn't successful.........
( and its a NEW drive)
I did get a 68 pin Quantum Atlas 9 gig to work.
I'm only guessing but I would think they would
be a pain to get set up. Its up to you but I don't
think I would buy one with the experience I have
now. I'm sticking to 50 pin drives.

Thanks for the tip..i was really temted to buy one...see...18 gb...only 39 dollars here...so i guess i will have to buy a second hand 9 gig then

;-) I haven't tried 80 pins, but 18 Gigabyte 68 pin SCSI drives work just fine on my CyberStorm's built-in SCSI controller.

As for hot-swapping the drive, I believe that this is a feature that must be supported by the controller, as well as the drive, so it isn't recommended on an older 50 pin controller.

Mind you, I have done it on occasion.  When a drive was so far gone that the 'miggy wouldn't boot with it connected, I'd connect it after booting, then mount it and use HDToolbox or similar to work on it and fix the problem.  It's definitely not something you want to do on a regular basis, though.
