Amiga SDK Developer ID?
« on: July 02, 2010, 03:44:51 PM »
Well, my amiga SDK pack came in the mail today. Went to try it out, however it requires that I get a developer ID and later a system ID. Well, the only problem with that is amigadev.net doesn't exist anymore. So, where can I get these codes, and do they cost money.

Man: Hah! What have you got to be afraid of? I\'m the one that\'s going to be coming back alone!

It won't work anyway.  Installation requires that the development kit "calls home" on the internet to register your system.  There's no way to install it now.

This is the sdk I was talking about. I really was interested in it because of its on disk rkm manuals. Also, it had a c compiler for amiga.

Actually, I seem to have gotten that confused with the amiga developer cd. GAAH! This is offtopic, but I noticed that natami has a copy of the rkm manuals. Is that legal? I always wanted a digital version, but I don't want to steal it. I know other sites have it, but I always thought they pirated it.

I very much doubt natami has gotten permission to host the files, but you never know.

Anyhoo, this is what you should've gotten:

I find it weird that AmigaKit still sell the totally useless "Amiga Software Development Kit" though.

"Begin exploring the new Amiverse(TM)"

I threw up a little in my mouth when I read that.

I can't believe Amigakit are still selling those, and for 40 quid too, with no mention that they will be unusable.  Shame.

I would look at returning even with a 20% restocking fee and shipping costs. What you have is completely useless. The developer CD is still good but a little old. I wouldn't worry too much about downloading the manuals. No one is losing money over it. There are plenty of versions elsewhere on the web including some in amigaguide format which is generally easier if programming on an Amiga. There is no need to pay for a C compiler either. VBCC is free and available here...

http://sun.hasenbraten.de/vbcc/

VBCC = easy to install, supported, cross platform (including Amiga flavors), free
GCC = difficult to install, not supported (on Amiga), cross platform, free
SAS/C = average to install, not supported, not cross platform, not free

Any other C compiler for the Amiga is not worth considering IMHO.
