how much trouble to install tcp/ip on 3.1?

How much fuss and trouble is it to install a tcp/ip stack on 3.1?
Which should I use ?

It should be easy today. My A3000 is still running AmiTCP. It took some time to set up, but it wasn´t exactly hard. But you shouldn´t use AmiTCP anymore there are newer and better alternatives today.

If you get AmiTCP it is going to be a ride full of pain to configure it. But it does the job pretty well.

Genesis is acceptable, easy to use, but a bit buggy.

Miami Deluxe is great in many aspects. simple to use, supports DHCP, but it is not on sale anymore. So unless you get a second hand registered copy or a pirate one, you are doomed. The only drawback of Miami Deluxe is that it needs a beefy system to operate correctly, if not, you will get slower conections than both Genesis and AmiTCP.

Termite TCP is a nice antique, simple to use, that does not support ethernet conections, seems only designed for dialups.

I never tried, and never seen in the wild the other TCP-IP stack available, Interworks I-Net 225, so I cant comment anything on this one.

Really?  I've installed AmiTCP numerous of times, couldn't be easier.  Just install the network driver, set up an IP address and run the startnet script.

This was the case for my A600 with prism2 wlan card.  Maybe I was just lucky, but for me it was certainly a sunshine story.

In which way buggy? I haven't noticed in over tens years of use in four different systems and numerous network cards (from 030 to PPC, from 3.1 to MorphOS 1.4, zorro/pci/pcmcia).

Beefy doesn't help, it's always slower.

Those are not AmiTCP/IP bugs. None of those "issues" affecting the networking. And btw how is

Hi,

I run MiamiDX on a Ver 3 ROMs and ver 3.1 Workbench WiFi
A1200/JawsMKII/1230/50 with 8 Meg Fast RAM.

I can chat with Wookiechat AND E-Mail with YAM at the same time.

Obviously you need MUI installed for these two programs, this is on Aminet as well..

Miami is easy to install.

I only used Miami once in my life when setting up my old Α600 with 030. It was not such a pleasant experience being rather slow for my taste. Once I reformated and setup AmiTCP over classic wb, everything was running very smoothly and quick (using no GUI though but declarations in User-Startup OR batch files if you didn't want on startup).
Installation for WiFi was not so difficult but needed some alteration on config files by hand to run just fine

Apart from that I'm using Genesis ever since since all my Amigas have 3.9 on them and it works like a charm

Genesis is a front-end/GUI for AmiTCP :-)

and about the speed ... Genesis/AmiTCP with its default settings, feels slower than Miami/DX but when you'll setup the send and receivespace values to some like 32678, it will works as aspected.
