I am a collector/user and like others have aquired almost all of my retro computers from Craigslist, PC recyclers  or Thrift stores.  Only a few have I bought for a lot of $ off eBay etc.  (Atari Falcon030 is one, as well as a A1200).  I really like to mess with them and most replicate models are for parts and spares as I am sure most will be dying off soon.  I definanetly dont want to recycle or throw them away so I just keep them.  I actually have like 5 A2000's that I got for free over the years and I plan on selling a few on CL if I can, shipping them is not a good idea due to the high chance of them getting damaged!  So to answer your question it comes down to nostalgia, hobby and sentimental value for me.

Every human is "crazy". Only the depth, color and expression vary person to person. Normally it's a good thing and it's what makes us the interesting bunch that we are. Is an Amiga user any more "crazy" than someone that spends $500 on a phone, or a taxidermist, an antique car restorer, model rail roader (toy trains), comic book collector?

Nah, we fit perfectly in the human spectrum IMHO. As has been said already... "it's just a hobby".

So true.  Everyone collects stuff.  Some more than others though.  Like the little old lady who has 47 cats, or the person who collects coco clocks! Or the match car collector.  What about those looney hoarders?  Where the whole house looks like a messy closet where you  can't even see the color of the carpet or walk around.  LOL  Everyone is mad. Some more than others.   ;)

No offense meant, Thorham.
Don't worry about it :)

We all enjoy the hobby-I said stupid/crazy in the sense that we collect what most feel is trash left over from the dawn of personal computing.
If that's crazy and stupid, then we're probably the least stupid and crazy of most people ;) The point I was trying to make is that spending 35 bucks on a hobby you enjoy isn't exactly much. You know what's crazy? I bought a 50 Euro PSU new from the peecee shoppe for my A1200  More expensive than the computer

Hi

Been collecting computers since my ZX81 which I still have in its original box. I started collecting Amigas when my Microvitec bust. I just got so concerned about there ever being a day I would be without my Amiga. I did decide to try and get one of everything and finished up getting loads more than planned. Thing is though I preserve, record, store and photograph and given the 1100 folk that visited the site today I guess some find it interesting. I haven`t been as active the last two years cus I have run out of space, but still am happy to find a good home for unwanted kit.

If it makes you happy and in some small way it keeps the Amiga flag flying then I say well done to all those that make the effort. Otherwise the kit would just get chucked... And we can`t have that happening, can we.

Happy days.... Proud to be collecting Amigas.

I would not be a collector even if I could afford it because that reduces the number of machines available to people who are (maybe) looking for their first amiga.
However those who rescue amigas from destruction are doing a fantastic job and deserve any profit they make from selling refurbished machines.

I'm glad there are people out there preserving old technology.
I had 4 Amigas at one point and used them maybe once a year or less, eventually I sold them to good homes (people who had discovered the Amiga and wanted to explore).

I still have a soft spot for Amigas, whenever I go to technology auctions or flea markets I still find myself looking for Amiga stuff among the lots eventhough I have no use for it.

I feel this.  I just wish they were selling them near me and not on Ebay where idiot snipers drive the prices so far north.

I can't believe that there are ppl who want an Amigas but can't find one.  OTOH, I can believe the tower models, CDTV, CD32 are spendy.

Does this mean ppl (new users?) wont bother with the older models?
