Personally, I would not re-install a Ni-Mh battery back onto the motherboard. Put the new battery inside plastic medicine bottle, and run leads. I hot glued the battery leads inside the bottle, and then hotglued the bottle to a convenient space. No more possibility of leaks.
Now about setbatt. Used with caution, and when necessary, it can correct hard drive issues.
This tool is a real operator utility. It allows you to set the configuration data saved in the nonvolatile ram of the A3000 clock chip.
Take care - if used in the wrong way this tool can cause great problems or even damage, you are using this tool on your own risk. The most prominent flag you may want to change is the SCSI scan timeout to make the SCSI controller recognize SCSI drives with a long select phase (namely the Seagate ST125N). Any other flags are to be treated with care and probably only serve as means of diagnosis.
Usage:
SetBatt [SetScsiTimeout] [UnsetScsiTimeout]
[SetScsiLUns] [UnsetScsiLUns]
[SetScsiSyncXfer] [UnsetScsiSyncXfer]
[SetScsiFastSync] [UnsetScsiFastSync]
[SetScsiTagQueues] [UnsetScsiTagQueues]
