Loading DMS demo's
« on: June 15, 2010, 08:46:02 AM »
Hi All,

I'm trying to load a demo I've downloaded from Aminet, it's a single DMS file. I've done some research and found that DMS's are similiar to ADF's, in that there virtual amiga disks? Is this correct?

Can anyone suggest a tool to unpack DMS files? or is there another way to load DMS files directly? I seem to remember there was another way?

I did download a DMS unpacker which converted the file do an ADF....I then tried to write this back to an Amiga disk using Amiga explorer but that didnt work.

Thanks.

DMS is the format produced by a tool called the Disk Masher. It's a small CLI utility that packs or unpacks disks a cylinder at a time. I think the original version is still here: http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/dms111

Most games and demos must be extracted to a real floppy to play them (they use custom trackloader routines which bang the floppy HW directly).

It really should have worked. xdms and then writing the resulting adf to a disk ought to work at least.

Hi,

I use a very small program off Aminet called DFace.

See  http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/DFace111

Ensure you have the right files in "C".

eg:

DMS

lha

LZX

If you need a copy of these modules I can send them to you.
