My new Amiga 3000

Hi there,

Got my Amiga 3000 a couple weeks ago, but got kinda busy with studies and work.

So here it is! I've ran SysInfo it got the following info:

Motorola 68030
Chip Memory 2MB
Fast Memory 4MB
Quantum Fireball540S 520MB, scores 2MB/sec
No additional boards.

And while taking a look inside, the battery was pretty bad. I removed it immediately.

Got it for 80$ CAD, which, in my opinion is not too bad.

So anyone got any ideas of applications/games I can install on this. I tried to install Directory Opus 4 but didn't managed to.

Right now, my PC and Amiga are linked together with an homemade null-serial cable and using Amiga Explorer.

Looking pretty nice. Very much the same machine as mine. And funny the battery "blues" were exactly like mine, the degree. It cleans up and works - tough little machine.

Congratulations! Nicest Amiga IMHO...

Have exactly the same config with an Ethernet card I got on Ebay, love it. Replaced the battery with the small LiIon coin battery replacement thingie from the German guy. Works like a charm...

Hello,

Ethernet card on AMIGA ? hummm 80/110 Eur ($70/$110).
The best choice: DENEB and all the 'USB world' will be open to you (HDD/Ethernet/Mouse/Keyboard/etc...). Becareful for your BUSTER version (7, 9 or 11).
Graphic card (like RETINA Z2 or PICASSO II) will be fine but it's very hard to find one for a cheap price

Thought the fan was quite loud, so I managed to fit a noise control device along with the fan. Pictures are included in my gallery.

EDIT: Don't try this at home haha. I didn't realized that the chip would add more load on the output and overload the fuse.

Awesome, I picked up up the same config 6 months ago for $50 cdn. I installed classic workbench http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/68k2.htm. I made a serial cable too and used amiga explore to transfer everything over.. whdload game machine it is! although i only got a 350 meg hd (which is more than enough)  and it had 3.1 roms installed too what i feel was pretty lucky.. I did have to remove the battery due to leakage and replace the hd floppy with another regular 880k from a a500. well i say about 75% of what i have tried worked. which i figure is not too bad considering.. Some games have there own hd installs too. And what doesn't work i have trust old a500 sitting here to pick up slack with 3 megs ram and 500 meg hd. then there winuae if really have a need to play something (like aga).. One day i will get off me old cheapo A$$ and pick one up.

A thing most guys does not realize: there is a gizmo called Lantronix MSS100, which is a ethernet modem emulator.

 They pop on Ebay every now and then. Wait for one for less than 30USD.

 What it does? It emulates a modem using the serial port of the Amiga and translate the commands to Ethernet, so all you need is the net stack (Miami, Genesis, AmiTCP, etc), a generic Hayes modem driver and on the hardware side a router (for obvious reasons).

lol .. I watch the local ads and http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/ like a hawk! there is a couple of a500's up there cheap and i bet you can get them even less for what they are asking for. One i have even picked up for free (a500). never know when you need a back up or spare parts.

jValdron:  Good for you getting a 3000! Save2600 on here just loves his.....

As for problems installing Directory Opus.. what version did you try to install? I use Dopus 4.16 exclusively, as I just didn't like the later versions. Anyway, there are slightly different versions of basically the same DirOpus4,  strangely one found on Aminet wouldn't work on my 1200T. So, I say scour the Net, look for old coverdisks, etc. You should be able to find a version of DOpus that works on your system.
   As for other applications... Well, some ppl. here might say that 4MB fast RAM is plenty..... But if you want to get into applications more, you should think about getting more RAM.  For 'common' tasks, 2MB Chip/4MB Fast might be enough....

Ahh, but I'm a Lightwave nut... I have a single scene that needs 128MB to render.. Yikes!
