Good brand of 2 button joysticks?

Whats a brand to look for, for actual 2 button joysticks ?
 
By this I mean a joystick where the buttons will do different things in games that support it, like Alien Breed 2 and Turrican 2, rather than having multiple buttons that do the same thing, atari style.

I have the Epyx two-button joystick that does read two buttons as separate and distinct.  I think the 2nd button is PotB (pin 9) and 1st button is normal pin 6 (trigger).

Having destroyed more joysticks than I would like to admit too through playing Sensible Soccer the only one that worked wonderfully and responded to the intricate Sensi moves was the Python

I have to say I gave up on joysticks because they broke so often. The earlier joysticks were just not suited to the gaming on the Amiga. A real pain.

Otherwise I remember only about 2 and that was back in the early 90's. You might have to take whatever you can get.

I love Konix's Speedking. Digital two button version with autofire, originally sold for some Sega IIRC, but it works just fine on Amiga too. It has helped me with many games with its separate second button... like with Project-X, Roadkill etc where you should reach spacebar with single button joystick to select or fire special weapons, but now you can just press the second button without losing the touch in the game.

When you absolutely positively have to kill every mofo in the room. Accept no substitute.

Also built like a damn tank. This model is the only joystick I could get that'd last me longer than 6 months. Pythons and similar for me would last maybe a fortnight at best.

Can't tell from the picture, but does that have buttons on the base as well?  The Epyx XJ500 does have button on the side.  I can't stand buttons just on the stick itself-- it just makes things difficult for some games especially on Atari Donkey Kong where you have to move the stick and jump independently and with good timing.

However, I thought it wasn't actually wired as a two button stick ?

The Python doesn`t have the base buttons.

When 'Game' stopped doing Amiga they had shelves of these Pythons and I must have bought two dozen. All but about three are now busted cus of Sensi World of Soccer.

To be honest most games I like are mouse based except Sensi. For arcade stuff I use a gamepad. Joysticks were pretty unresponsive and broke far too easily. I also didn`t like stick control. Here are a selection of joysticks that I have... I have a whole load more in an old TV box which must be easily 3ft sqr. I just don`t use them.

The Competition Pro Joystick is not a 2-button joystick!

It has a bunch of buttons but they all do the exact same thing.  So it is worthless.

If you want to lose every 2-button game you play then use a Competition Pro.  It makes the competition look professional!

Yeah because having a robust joystick verses some wizz bang thing like the Python that'll last you all of two minutes in a frenzied game is totally worthless. :rolleyes:

If you want to lose every 2-button game you play then use a Competition Pro.  It makes the competition look professional!

I've played with dozens of variations on the Competition Pro style, some were two button, others 1 button (but multiples). Either way, as you're getting one for free give it a whirl, it might surprise you.

The best controller for the Amiga imho was the Hornby 360 (though good luck trying to find one of those now!). :razz:

My absolute favourite stick as a kid was a dirt cheap poorly manufactured piece of crap. But I always got great scores with that one. Got used to the stick being somewhat lose

Im excited about the competition pro, all things considered. Can't wait to try it.

I don`t suppose anyone has an update SWOS team for the 2010 World Cup. Need my not so Sensible fix. In terms of game team management [ I'm talking about buying, training, transferring players ] SWOS still knocks spots off FIFA. And you don`t get offered the England job when you get good in FIFA.

Ahh, sorry, my bad. I meant to imply (on the basis of what had been said about the comp pro) that having the el cheepo Python would be better than the supposedly "worthless" Comp pro. Apologies for the confusion.

Which is whyI went over to the Hornby 360 Turbotouch in the end. Damn thing was near indestructible and nothing could touch it for responsiveness. Oh and you can still get them on Amazon, which shocked the hell out of me

I never really got into SWOS, though I did enjoy the earlier non management versions of the game.
