Lost Drivers?
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:46:59 AM »
Hi all, I am kind of new to the Amiga, and just as I was beginning to get to know it, my users group fizzled out.I just bought 2 cards from ebay, and as my luck would have it,neither came with install disks (I'm SOL!). The cards were an Apollo 1260 @80 and a Cyberstorm MK II @80,(The Retina card fortunately had drivers.),but the X-Surf did not. I was attempting to build up my 1200 and my 4000 to "Tower Brasts", but this has stopped me in my tracks. I have been all over the net looking for tutorials and "How to's" but all suggest buying/aquireing something else,(CrossDos,DiskMasher,Amiga forever) My only source is the BBOAH and download the files in .dms.It is at this point that I go brain dead and display the 1000 mile stare. My plead is,is there a simple way to download to a PC,port to an Amiga, convert to something the Amiga (And I) can understand. Or, Plan B is anyone willing to sell me these disks in Amiga (OS3.9) format. I will gladly pay for the disks and Shp. & Handeling plus any reasonable preperation fees. (Or unreasonable!) I am learning more and more each day and at this rate, I'll have it running on my own by early 2032. Thank you for your time and patients.:insane:

CrossDOS already comes with every version of AmigaOS starting with 3.1 so all you need to do to read PC formatted disks on your Amigas is to double click the PC0 icon in 'Storage/DOSDrivers' folder of the partition you booted from and then insert the disk into the disk drive. Simply copy the necessary files to the disk on the PC beforehand, including the tools you need to extract the files, which you should be able to find on Aminet. Try searching for 'DMS' or 'Disk Masher' on that site.

The A1200 will most probably have a Double Density (DD) disk drive so remember to use 720KB formatted disks on the PC. The A4000 will most likely have a High Density (HD) drive so any standard 1.44MB PC formatted disk should be fine.

Let us know if you have any issues copying the files to disk.
Sam460ex: PPC460ex/1GHz, 2GB RAM, 30GB SSD via on-board SATA-2, DVD-RW via USB, Radeon 5450 1GB PCIe, Catweasel Mk4 PCI, A4000 KB and Competition Pro CD32 Pad.
A4000D: 030/25MHz, 16MB RAM, Indivision Mk1, 8GB CF as HDD and IDE CD-ROM.

Amiga user since 1992.

If you fill in your profile showing your country, maybe somebody local can help.

otherwise as suggested, copying stuff over on floppy will do..

latest xsurf drivers > http://www.jschoenfeld.com/indexe.htm
Latest cyberstorm mk2 libs > http://phase5.a1k.org/
apollo install disk > http://www.l8r.net/install/accel/apollo060.DMS

most seem to be smaller than 720k so should fit on a pc formatted floppy disk,
copy "pc0 from storage/dosdrivers to devs/dosdrivers" from memory this location might be different.
reboot and when you insert pc formatted floppy you can read it.

once you have all the stuff over you need, .dms files are diskmasher so need to be written back to floppy first with .http://aminet.net/util/arc/dms111.run
and unarc or lha to extract others etc..

hope this helps a bit.
