Photogenics - where to get it?
« on: May 28, 2010, 03:44:02 AM »
Hi,

I'm currently tinkering with my A4000 to see how useful it can be.

One thing I'd like to try is 24 bit GFX editing . PPaint is okay for pics up to 256 colours, but isn't really used for photo editing...

Back in the day I had Photogenics 1.2 with my A1200 and it seemed like a useful program, but I can't seem to find it anywhere out there now.

Does anyone know if there's a 'free' or demo version available for the Amiga (I see there's a PC version now).

Cheers,

Mike.

Wow, A$99.60 is a bit steep for such old software that definitely will never see another Amiga update ever again. I bet they'd sell a lot more copies and make a lot more profit if it was closer to $30.

Hmm... Yep, too rich for my requirements - a quick/occasional 'tinker'...

Does anyone know if the old coverdisk version 1.2 is available?

Mike.

You're going to have to bite the bullet, and buy a graphics card if you are serious about working with graphics...
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

If you know which magazine and when it came from, it should be very easy to find.

There might even be 1 or 2 dealers who still have v2 in stock.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies...

I've tracked down v1.2 - Makes you realise how much we take modern PCs for granted in terms of speed when displaying & editing digital images! :-)

It was such a great program at the time. Certainly more a bit more user-friendly than ImageFX.

Website states $79.. I think it might be worth it.. I've always wanted this program.

It's worth every penny. Sheesh.. y'all will spend $250 -$300 for an old CPU card but not spend $79 for software you can run emulated on a PC using UAE at 5 times the speed of the $300 CPU card...

Photogenics 2.x was a complete rewrite and is a lot better than 1.2.

Photogenics 2.x was a complete rewrite and is a lot better than 1.2.

As is version 4.x over 2.x. Mostly in the way the interface works. Both versions are exellent grfx/paint packages. Version 4 is well worth the $80. ...at least it was when originally released. It's not a catchall program, more slatted towards 24bit digital painting instead of processing. A decent display card really is beneficial to the operation of the program.
I am unable to find a vt framestore loader/saver for photogenics. :(
