Anybody install TVPaint on AmigaOS 4.1?
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:49:18 AM »
That's what I'm trying to do. Know it's possible because I've seen the YouTube video of it in action. I've got TVPaint 3.59 installation files that have worked on my 4000 with CV64/3D card, and I have run the installation on my new SamFlex system. But nothing happens when I double-click the program icon.

I think it might be looking for Cybergraphics stuff. I see Picasso stuff here. Does the solution exist there?

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, it is running perfectly on my SAM Flex as well. But I am on the road now and can't check the version number. I can't remember doing anything special though. Most probably it "just worked'.

I haven't tried it for a LONG time, but back when I did i remember I didn't need to do anything special to get it to work.

Are there any tooltypes in the program icon?

Thanks, guys. Didn't see any ToolTypes. Had two LHA files and one SFX file, each making an ADF image file. Had to use a classic Amiga with floppy drive to turn the SFX into an ADF, then mounted all three image files on the SamFlex and installed. Installation seemed normal, but program doesn't run.

Can't try anything else until I get home this evening, but I am hopeful becase ChrisH over at amigans.net has made an installation script for AOS4.1 and TVPaint.

Meanwhile, got Blender, ImageFX, Hollywood and Hollywood Designer installed on my new SAmiga. TVPaint will round out a nice suite of classic and new creation tools.

My copy is Version 3.6. There are no tooltypes. There is a stack size of 42000 in the icon.

I have kept the installation log:
>Select Destination Partition to install TVPaint3.6 drawer
Ask Drawer: Result was "work:TVPaint".
Copy file "TVPaint#1:cyber.lha" to "t:".
Run Program: "TVPaint#1:c/lha -E -N e t:TVPaint.lha t:"
Delete file "t:TVPaint.lha"
Copy file "TVPaint#1:tvpaint.dat" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "TVPaint#1:RexxCommand.tvp" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Palette" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Palette.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Convolutions" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Convolutions.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Curves" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Curves.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Rexx" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Rexx.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Things" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "Things.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "images" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "images.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Run Program: "copy sys:rexxc/rx c:"
Copy file "TVPaint#2:ex.lha" to "t:".
Copy file "TVPaint#2:ex.lha.info" to "t:".
Run Program: "makedir t:images"
Run Program: "TVPaint#2:c/lha -E -N e t:ex.lha t:images/"
Copy file "images" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "images.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "TVPaint" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "TVPaint.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "images" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Copy file "images.info" to "work:TVPaint/TVPaint3.6".
Run Program: "delete t:tvp#?"
Run Program: "delete t:ex.lha"
Run Program: "delete t:images all"
Exiting script...

Furthermore there is a tvpaint.ini file (ascii) that may reveal something about intended display size etc.

Install? No. Run? Yes.

I basically attached my A1200's HD to my 4.1 box and copied everything over. Other than temporarily renaming the odd application configuration file here and there (usually to stop an application trying to open a screenmode from my old system for which there is no matching displaymode ID on the new one), most stuff just worked.

As an aside, rather than make a mess of the system partition by dropping OS3.x libraries etc into it, I have an "OS3.x" directory in my main OS4.1.2 partition that has subdirectories for libraries, classes etc. into which I assign add in my user startup. This keeps a degree of segregation between legacy 68K stuff an PPC native.

@mbrantley

It has been a long time since I installed TVPaint.  I had AmigaOS 4.0 at that time and I did not know how to mount an ADF file, so I used AmigaOS4 PPC version of E-UAE and AmigaOS 3.1 to emulate a Classic Amiga.  I installed TVPaint using OS 3.1 then quit E-UAE, went back to OS4 and moved the TVPaint drawer out to a more convenient location on my OS4 partition.

Ever since then, I have run TVPaint directly under OS4 (with no E-UAE) with no problems at all.  Now working fine with OS4.1 Update 2.

If I recall correctly you might have to save a config file.  If you copied TVPaint from another computer you might have to delete the config file and save a new config file the first time you run TVPaint.

On my system, there is a TVPaint.config file located in the Prefs:env-archive drawer.

There is also a file called TVPaint.ini in the TVPaint drawer.  If you rename this file to something else, it might allow you to make some changes.

This may be my problem. TVPaint complains it can't find cybergraphics.library. That's what I use on my 4000 installation, but unless I'm mistaken that's not what I want with OS4. Trying to find a config file to alter or delete, but not sure what it might be called or where it might be located.

Gonna go look harder...

Hmmm... Picasso96 comes with cgx emulation as standard.

Hmmmm.... that may be a clue. When I run Picasso96 from Prefs, I ger an error requester telling me Picasso96Mode "Could not finy any modes!" So how do I made that work? Must have some files missing from where there supposed to be. Off to look...

It does. The CGX libraries were not required to run it.

Woo hoo! Problem solved!!!

There was nothing at all wrong with my TVPaint installation(s).

The problem was that I had not set up any screen modes for my Radeon 9250 and Samsung B2330 combination other than the 1920x1080 I'm using for Workbench. And for some reason TVPaint won't run on that. Once I enabled a number of modes via the ScreenModes Prefs programs, I am able to choose from a variety of modes for TVPaint to run in. And it runs fine in them.

It would be nice if I could get it into the HD 1920x1080 mode, however, so I can create native HD stills images for use in my video work.

On a related note, I am able to run ImageFX on the Workbench at 1920x1080, but the largest custom screen it will run on is 1600x1200 -- same as TVPaint. Why is this? It's something I want to pursue.

Thanks, everyone on this forum and another where I sought and received guidance.
