Turrican!
« on: May 20, 2010, 06:04:01 AM »
so.. I have set myself the goal of playing every Turrican game and version there was.

Im familiar with the first two for the C64, and all 3 on the amiga. Looks like there were quite a few others as well, so I'll have to break out the emulators.

So ..lets talk about Turrican. Fave music pieces, fave levels, how each version compared to each other etc

OK, first the obligatory 'Cool Thread' comment. Cool Thread! :)

I love Turrican. I'm fortunate to have 1,2, and 3 on my miggies thanks to WHDLoad. But some time ago, when I got my current A1200T, after some upgrade... I couldn't get Turrican (1) to run. Not even with WHDLoad. So I started looking for another version to get my 'fix'. I spent a bit too much money on the Turbo Grafx 16 version, and was pleasantly suprised... Except, GRRRR, that level where you're flying that scrolls up, is missing from the TG16 version.

Overall, though, it's a very good conversion. Graphics are pretty good, although the colors are muted in comparison to the Amiga.

Thanks for the links guys!

So far, Im brawling my way through Turrican on the C64.
I am very pleasantly surprised. Its a great game and they achieved some very cool things on the machine. I still prefer the amiga version, if nothing else, due to the outstanding music.

Anyone know if the ST version had anything going for it ?

How far have any of you all gotten in Turrican 2? I keep an A1000 using original Kickstart disks (1.0 through 1.3.3), mostly for old games.
It is still really handy for Super Base Pro 4 data files, and DPaint III too.
I almost added a Kickstart ROM. Glad I didn't!
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

I have finished all three amiga games. Actually for the first time, back in 2004.
I have Super Turrican under ZSNES, and sure it's pretty, but somehow I never got hooked playing beyond the second few levels.
I have spoken !

I really really really can't stand pushing a button to jump, so that'll hurt when I get to the nintendo and megadrive ones...
