Super denise question??
« on: May 16, 2010, 02:02:44 AM »
Is the Super Deniser for the Amiga 3000 the same exact chip as a Super Denise used in an Amiga 2000?  Thanks.

Depends on how new the A2000 is or if someone threw an ECS Denise in it  ;)

The Super Denise is the ECS Denise.

The OCS Denise is the original "Denise". The ECS Denise is the "Super Denise".

When their powers combine, they merge to form "Ultra Denise".

But she's only available for the X1000's Xorro Slot. ;)

Don't worry I saw the other thread after finding my way back here via googling it! Super Denise just adds all those screen modes that were of no use to games programmers trying to compete with 16bit Sega/Nintendo consoles.

Actually ECS was pretty useless compared to Ranger which was completed before the A2000 shipped in 1987, let alone what PCs and Macs were getting in the early 90s.

Out of interest, can I run Kickstart and Workbench 1.3 in Super Hires 1280x256 screen mode via a hack on an 'ECS' machine?

edit: was meant to type OCS Denise before, but it's 6am here so...coffee time!! :)

The ECS screenmodes require Kickstart 2 or better. I don't know if a hack for 1.3 compatibility exists.

That's a shame as I have two spare 500/2000/3000 8373R4 (390433-02) chips here doing nothing. My A1000 already has EHB so there's no other reason to swap it out really without a Workbench 1.3 hack for 1280x256 mode :)

Here's another question, I have a blank IC with 8373 written on the top in pencil, quite faint but came out of a horribly yellowed A500+ I couldn't find a replacement drive for or keyboard so pulled the chips.

Is this a copy or bootleg after a repair? It has some writing underneath but no CSG or anything, just says 'Hong Kong <2 meaningless number sequence>" and the top is completely devoid of any printed information and is completely blank except for the 8373 hand written in pencil on top.
