Hopefully they'll have a killer app ready for demonstration.  I intend to go to that demo in June in the UK to find out.

My new computer is still "being picked" at AmigaKit, so I'm just going to have to be patient. :) But as I wait, I just started reading the wikibooks manual on Blender called "Noob to Pro," and imagine my happy surprise when I see Amiga mentioned so early at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Blender_Windowing_System where readers are told to use LAmiga+M or the front/back gadget to switch screens. Feels almost like we're back in the mainstream. ;)

funny how PPC cards on Ebay are selling for crazy prices constantly and people are complaining about the X1000:confused:
as for Mac comparison well let's just say many people would laugh at paying alot extra coin for a Mac (or any other Apple product)...too much smoke and mirrors for a shiny white case and itune bs:roflmao:

Wow! What a machine I could build with a $2100 shopping spree on Newegg.com! LOL!

You could build an 8 core (dual 4core procs) ,16GB RAM, etc monster that could run Windoze, Linux, Hackintosh, and about any other app you could think of!

Actually you can go to IBUYpower.com and make an intel i7 6 core (12 total threads) for about that much with a nice case.

use a gigabyte MOBO with the efix bios adapter, intall win7, MacOS snow leopard, and unbutu each on separate drives (500 gig hd's are $50 usd)

Get the new Amiga forever and a 6pack of coronas and enjoy a sunday afternoon. or rainy day...

People also complain about accelerator price

The amigoid system with best performance/price right now is a G4 Mac Mini running MorphOS. You can get Mac Minis quite cheap on eBay

Please forgive if I interrupt every once in a while to talk about my new computer, but I'm excited. :) I almost said new Amiga, but I didn't want to get into that argument. Still it will be my first new, not preowned computer purpose-built for running Amiga OS (I don't like AmigaOS) since February 1993.

Anyway, the update from AmigaKit has the new Ami... er, computer all packed up and "awaiting dispatch." I'll post pictures when it gets here and my review later on. I really hope the aforementioned Samsung 1920 x 1080 monitor will work out OK.

OK... back to the other topics...

I remember buying a new Amiga 3000 back in 1992 for 1700 Euro. That is alot more than 1700 Euro today.

1700 Euro for a computer is not much for those who want a computer like that. People buy iMacs for the same amount just to surf the web. To pay the same amount for a hobby is alot better in my eyes :D

The thing is that back in '92, the Amiga was still very much commercially supported and in its prime. It was not a hobby computer.

Back to the present. I cannot accept paying such HUGE amounts of money for what is essentially a very much outdated motherboard in the case of the SAM, and even more for a computer which has almost ZERO commercial support in both the case of the X1000 and the SAM.

The iMac is very much a supported computer, ok not as much as a Wintel PC but still it is very supported.

Maybe its just me, but i think its mad buying these new computers / motherboards, paying so much just for the "privelage" of being able to run OS4.1 .

Then again having said that, i must have been pretty mad spending loads of money buying my A4000T and PicassoIV, so i can understand that there is a market for madness :P

Congrats on your purchase :D

$2k+ for a hobby computer. No thanks. What are these people smoking? Who pays that much today for a fully loaded computer with a relevant OS even?

The same you smoked when you ordered your Deneb. Remind us, again, how much you paid only to have access in usb?

Face it, we're all mad here to varying degrees. AmigaKit reports my 'puter has shipped, so I just celebrated by buying Hollywood, Hollywood Designer and Malibu.

Well 1700 ain't gonna cut it for what I have paid for my Core I7 975, the system complete with all I have in it and attached to it, is just over 3000 and then excluding monitor, printer and steering wheel.
My case was already 285 euro's.

Things are worth what they are worth to the buyer.

I just bought a 1200 for about 170 bucks including shipping from the UK.

Is a 20 year old computer worth 170 dollars to your average citizen? Propably not.

Is it worth it to me ? Every penny.
