MiniMig Question
« on: May 11, 2010, 02:25:31 AM »
I'm sure this question has been beaten to a bloody pulp, but I'll pose it anyway.

I just picked up a MiniMig 1.1 and when I plugged it into my Sharp 17" LCD (model LL-T17A4-B) I get a Out of Timing V:  50Hz H 31kHz.

I've tried to adjust the timing on my monitor, but I can't get it below 60Hz on the vertical side.

Am I in possession of a PAL unit here?  Or is there some way to adjust this to work with 60Hz?

Thanks in advance.

Curtis

Okay, never mind.  Just after I submitted this, I stumbled across the instructions for holding down the F1 key.

Ya know, Mondays shoudl be abolished!  My brain doesn't start working until at least Thursday!!!

At least you didn't push all the buttons, post here and then realise it wasn't plugged in. Some people think that computers have a level of intelligence and stop working just to be 'annoying'.

Nope, wouldn't be that ignorant.  I did plug it in and go the message about being out of timing and did a cursory search for minimig and NTSC and didn't find anything.  That's when I made my original post.

After that I dug a little deeper and stumbled across the minimig forums and tunneled in a little and found ONE reference to the F1 key being held down.

Ya know, you would think something like that would be in the owner's manual!  Oh wait a minute, I forgot, I'm dealing with Amiga documentation which has always been a little on the light side.  That should start the flames a bit.  But PLEASE tell me it isn't so!

Minimig Firmware Manual Release version YQ090421, page 11:

It is possible to override stored PAL/NTSC settings while
the FPGA configuration is being uploaded. This takes
place when the DRIVE LED is rapidly blinking after
switching on the power. Press and hold the [F1] key to force the display to
NTSC mode. Press and hold the [F2] key to force PAL mode. Remember
to save these settings to set current video mode as default.

The manual is a little bit old but I have no time to update it and nobody else wants to do it. Besides as this thread proves nobody RTFM!

Now that I found THAT manual, things are different!

This should make things much easier to understand.

The only manual I had found previously was only 5 pages, unless you count the Italian and German translations...

Ya know, something I should have mentioned is I got this used.  With nothing except for a wall wart and a plexiglas top and bottom cover.
