Babylon 5 is by far one of the best sci-fi's to grace our TV's. Watch it, watch it all. If you like sci-fi at all, you'll love it.

Comments like "no, it's shit" are just trolling so just ignore them. Cammy has told you all you need to know so get on with it and when you've finished come back and tell us if you think it was worth it. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

As for the "read a book" comments, c'mon folks, this is a computer forum. If you can't use a screen for entertainment sometimes then why are you even reading this forum? That's like watching porn all day then saying it should be banned, hypocrisy!
Falling into a dark and red rage.

alittle OT

JMS Seems to be a big player these days, good on him :) perhaps he now can command more freedom and get B5 on the big screen,  fingers & toes crossed ;)

JMS was a big player BEFORE B5, he did a fair chunk of Murder She Wrote.  Well, 7 episodes, but he DID create the series Jerimiah

Oh, and just ignore the troll called "Tension", he has to work off some Tension :)  But that is what you get for living in Northern ireland, All those little Skirmishes between the Catholics and Protestants cannot be fun.

The FX may have been hard to look in the pliot... but in season 3 the nailed it... by then they hit  full stride  where massive armadas and big space battles were the norm. The work was so well done that Foundation Imaging who originally had a contract to produce visual FX for te life of the series was let go and Doug Netter had an in house team produce the FX using all the foundation imaging assets.

Foundation imaging later went on to create visual FX for tar Trek Voyager and Enterprise until they went out of business in 2002.

Firstly, im not a troll.  Secondly, I actually find your statement quite insensitive.  People being murdered constitutes quite a lot more than a "little skirmish", and has nothing to do with my post.  Take it to a different thread please.

Well I give this shit a try. Not on instant play though, crap. DVD will be better. SiFi is such a hard genre of fiction. And there is more bad of it than good. I kinda know how to manage my expectations.

And I like Tension...

Watch it for sure, especially if you can get the DVDs. Sometimes you can find them on sale... I bought the last 4 seasons for $20 a year from Buy More... er, I mean Best Buy. ;-)

The thing I like most is that it's a complete story that builds through the whole series. Unlike Trek, where everything resets to the status quo at the end of the episode. ;-) Stargate SG-1 is the same way... they learn or "borrow" new tech and use it, rather than make up some technobabble explaining why it won't work or some such excuse.

Yeah in TV land but he is now involved in Hollywood movies and doing quite well to, Changeling & Ninja Assassin   with  quite a few more in the pipeline.

Effects are great but, bad ones can be forgiven if there's good story telling, right? I like old 70s SiFi like:

Colossus: The Forbin Project
Andromeda Strain
Logan's Run
West World ,

Terrible with effects - still, those were just oddly cool movies...

Actually, first time you said it was an opinion..

OP: should i watch B5
You: No, its shit..

That was your opinion.  But to then several posts later you post it again.., THAT was trolling.

Alright, so this form of B5 is not your cup of tea or slice of semtex.., that does not dismiss the series HAS got a cult following, despite the first season's reputation.

Look at the remake of "V", showing that despite the glitter and glamour of the CGI, thats what you can call "SHIT !"

But no matter what people's feelings of the first season, there are key stories in the first seasons that helps you understand later season episodes like season 3 and 4.

Also as Crom said, the TV movies also add a touch to the series too, of which, each telemovie has its own slot in the TV series timeline for story chronology.

In the beginning: (Set before the Tv series, but has an opening and closing scene's from Season 4)
The Gathering (The initial Pilot 1x00, Pre series).
ThirdSpace: Set after the Vorlon/Shadow war.
River of souls: Season 5.
A call to arms: After season 5, Allies of the shadows try to use remnant technology left behind against the alliance, setting the ground for the TV series "Crusade".

This gives you a ROUGH idea of the viewing order of the films and series, with regards to how the story line pans out.

2245–48 • In the Beginning (1st film)*
2256 • Babylon 5 station commissioned
2257 • The Gathering (Pilot)
2258 • Signs and Portents (Season 1)
2259 • The Coming of Shadows (Season 2)
2260 • Point of No Return (Season 3)
2261 • No Surrender, No Retreat (Season 4)**
2261 • Thirdspace (2nd film)***
2262 • The Wheel of Fire (Season 5)†
2263 • The River of Souls (3rd film)
2265 • The Legend of the Rangers (5th film)
2266 • A Call to Arms (4th film)
2267 • Crusade (spin-off series)
2271 • The Lost Tales: Voices in the Dark
2278 • In the Beginning (1st film)*

But this can also be used to try to see what episodes/films fall in what order.
