New Commodore C64 modern Computer
« on: May 08, 2010, 05:09:38 AM »
Hi,

Anyone seen or own the new Commodore Computer, looks like a modern day update of the C64.

http://www.commodoreusa.net/tech.html

You can read interviews about it by just looking up commodore computers.

Looks like a class act

Hi,

@XDelusion

What do you mean by that.

I heard about this from MaximumPC magazine.

And there you have it! :)

A lot of us were excited about it, though the price is insane, and as you'll see on the threads, there are a lot of sketchy things about this Commodore USA company.

If it is real, then it should sell for around the $200 price range realistically. Think of it as a Netbook without a screen.

I think its kind of funny that having been caught with absolutely no rights to use the commodore name or trademarks, he continues to keep this website up.

Equally funny, if you are dumb enough to buy one of these computers there at a hefty markup instead of direct from who is actually making them... well he'll send you some commodore stickers to put on it yourself.

Its ridiculous that this guy thinks he can make a buck like that.

I know that this computer was made by someone else.
The last time I checked, a long time ago, it was expensive.

Equally ridiculous (or annoyingly silly) is that by slapping a C= badge on a PC, it's suddenly the "new C64".  There's absolutely nothing C64-ish about this thing at all.

I'm going to buy a pile of old Mac Mini's, put a checkmark on them and market them as "the new Amiga 500".  And the advertisement will go like "Remember the good old days?".  People will go crazy, right?
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

It's a ZPC screenless laptop.  There's apparently a warehouse full of these things because nobody wants a screenless laptop in 2010.  The main disadvantage is cabling, with this machine you need a power cord, ethernet cord and connection to the TV to use in the living room.  With a conventional box you put the box behind the TV and use a wireless mouse and keyboard....

Plus for a generic PC it's pricey.  For the money you can get a laptop with a screen that's far more powerful.

It's also unclear whether this new "Commodore USA" has reached an agreement with the trademark owner or not.  They were going to ship chinese made labels separately so that they weren't technically in violation of the Trademark.

The guy claims experiences in IT, but it's a furniture store he's running this out of.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

If a company was to rehouse either the Commodore DTV or Minimig in a nicely designed keyboard unit then this I would buy.

However no company is planning on doing this on the sort of scale where the price drops to a low enough level to become a casual purchase. They did it with the NES chipset for third world countries, but I'm not interested in Nintendo stuff.

(have rooms full of Commodore computers already...last count 25 C64s of various flavours alone)
