PICO PSU is playing tricks...

I have been working with a Pico120 PSU project and I now notice that it only likes to come on when I have something connected to the molex connector. For instance, When I have the multimeter connected to the molex, measuring the 5+V, I click the atx power switch, and all comes to life.

If I remove the multimeter leads, I click the switch, nada. Is it sensing power? Drain? Hmmm, is Pico watching me?

I would not be surprised.  A lot of power supplies will only activate if a load is sensed.

iv not notices this on the PICO. you may have a connection/contact problem or wiring is not correct.

Yeah, both solid thoughts. I'll do some more checks tonight. And check that sound is working right too...

Something must be missing. More testing and I have found that the audio is messed up. This is a tell tale sign that it is not getting -12 ? is that right? I will send pic of solder hook up...

Well the computer has been drinking, not me, not me.  :lol:

I fixed one issue yesterday and then I remember, oh this old MB I wasn't using... was not in use for a reason! ; it's was busted to begin with Duhhh.

And I'm going to blame that on the early collapse of my memory abilities.

No where'd I put that A3000 .....

Ok, I was able to hook up the Pico to another known to be good A1200 and it worked just fine, no problems. So, the other motherboard had problems for certain.

Too bad, cause the only thing wrong with it seems to be the audio. HD, PCMCIA, video, lyra 2 keyboard all worked.

It is old though. It's a rev 2B, a real Commodore built MB. I bet it can be fixed...

The A1200's were (or ARE) as succeptable to Audio Circuit damage through faulty capacitors as much as Amiga 4000's.  Put your nose directly to the motherboard, and sniff the capacitors (I am not joking here), Electrolyte smells like strong cat piss.  When I got my 4000 fixed (Audio), the repairer sent me back the caps he replaced, and that is the best description of the smell.
