CD32 ProModule problems.
« on: November 20, 2003, 06:17:02 PM »
My friend gave me a totally messed up ProModule as resources of spare parts. There was a 68882/33 FPU inside so I took it out and put it into mine. Jumper is set to Synch because I haven't found a proper oscillator for it (so it should run @14 MHz).
The problem is it won't work. The whole module goes intact but SysInfo doesn't detect it :-(.
Please help. What should I do?
Cheers...

What did you put the 68882 into?
If I have military spec stuff listed on eBay, you can find it here  :-)

Check all the connections between the CD32 and ProModule. I had a flakey SX-1 that would only work if it was positioned *just* right. Sometimes fast RAM would fail, sometimes the whole unit would go into a crash loop.

Try popping out the FPU. Does everything work?

Positioning the bridgeboard "just right" solved RAM-vanishing problem but I still can't make that FPU work. SysInfo doesn't detect it... I'm not sure if popping FPU out is necessary. ProModule works perfectly. I'm afraid of taking it out, I don't want to make any damage to socket or mobo... Even taking it out of that destroyed ProModule was quite hard... :-(

Maybe the FPU's dead?

I don't know. My friend said it was okay before his ProModule felt down from a shelf. And I doubt if it could be damaged when placed in the socket. I'm waiting for a 33 MHz oscillator, maybe this will help...

I got tat 33 MHz oscillator (finally!). Time to make some tests... maybe it'll make that unlucky FPU work...?

probably there's a bit rust on the connector or socket. Happens to me very often with (game)cartridges and so.

Yours have a Hard Drive?
If you have some degree of expansion, it may be best to use TWO PSUs!  The ProModule can have a standard A5/6/12c power connector attached to the box itself, while the CD32's PSU attaches to the CD32 itself.

Then, you set a switch to run on the dual PSUs.

I did that. I use an A500 PSU borrowed from my ex- ;-). I'll try to check those connectors, maybe they are covered with dust or corroded. I need a PLCC extractor... :-(
