amitcp can't get on the internet
« on: April 05, 2010, 01:26:11 AM »
Hi,

I am almost there!

I have installed amitcp and followed a guide that didn't quite match up (perhaps I was using a newer version of the amitcp).

I am using the netcomm 3c589 compatible drivers and must be so close to getting it working!

I can ping my gateway 192.168.0.1, the amiga has ip address of 192.168.0.101, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

The dns servers are set to my ISP dns servers and can't configure what else I can do.

I can't ping www.google.com.au

But I can ping other devices that are on my network.

Any help greatly appreciated.

When I try do a ping now it says

I am sorry, I am more of a Genesis TCP-IP kind of guy, I like things a bit simpler. You can always try the demo at http://aminet.net/comm/tcp/gendemo104.lha

By the way, I believe you can install AmiTCP 4.x demo without any limitations from http://aminet.net/comm/tcp/AmiTCP-demo-40.lha

Keep me updated! :)

I am going to keep going with this.

I am almost there, I renamed the driver device to network.device, since amitcp does not like numbers in the device driver.

I followed the guide to the letter but am now getting no route to host

in the amitcpip log I am getting inetd[c9692a8] daytime/tcp: bind: can't assign requested address

Any ideas guys?

okay just installed amitcp version 4.

It does select me ethernet but doesn't let me specifically pick out the driver I wish to use, only the standard ones, what do you do from here?

Dont give up! AmiTCP is well known to be complicated. I know there should be someone over here that has experience using it, and will hopefully come to rescue.
If not, remember there are other TCP-IP stacks that are much more easy to configure!
Be patient.

Seriously did you think I would give up....I'm still at it!!!!

I am now using Genesis and it is getting stuck on host name and domain name obtaining.

** this is compounded by the fact the guy that I bought a usb mouse adaptor on ebay almost a month ago has only posted it last week!  Having fun using the amiga keys and the arrows!!! :-)

Using keyboard only! :0
You are my hero :))

Is your internet provider using fixed IPs or dynamic IPs? If it is dynamic, then that is probably your problem. Check http://aminet.net/search?query=dhcp for solving that matter.

I have set it up for static 192.168.0.10 subnet 255.255.255.0
gate way 192.168.0.1
dns servers is set to 192.168.0.1

I can't ping 192.168.0.1
I can ping my own ip address 192.168.0.10
The light on the adapter when genesys is running is turned off, as soon as I disconnect from genesys it turns itself back on.

Once disconnected from genesys I can click on connect but it will no longer connect and have to reboot.

I think I'm going to try Amiga OS 3.9 and see if that fixes it and then purchase it.

Where is the place to buy it, is anyone here selling an original that may have upgraded to 4.0->

Hi,
It's all a bit fuzzy now, but did you use the pcmcia software fixes from Aminet ? I think without them you have to pull the pcmcia card out then put it in again to make it work. It was something like "cardreset.lha".

I do have a pcmcia ethernet card working well here with Genesis and OS3.5

Yes I recalled that, I can ping the ip address of the card itself no worries, but not of the gateway or anything else.

I was so close with amitcp version 2 but really need something that is more up to date and that will work with ibrowse.

It just seems rather strange that none of the more modern utilities will work properly with this card.

I guess it will be something very simple when you find it, but I can't see much difference between your settings and mine. I can see (in Netconnect-GenesisPrefs) - Sana - specify Sana-II device = Devs:Networks/3C589.device Unit=0, and config file = Env/Sana2/

Yeah it is strange...  can't believe I got it almost working on amitcp 2.0 but not on the others.
