S-video for Amiga for about $37
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:43:25 PM »
I'm doing this on my 128 and can get interlace RGB with no flicker on a modern LCD TV. Doing this with an Amiga should be easier than the 128. The adapter costs about $37 shipped, and that is about the total cost if you solder a connector to the wires yourself. This cost is assuming you have a modern LCD TV at your disposal.

Older thread (ignore modification info for the 128):

This is the model I am using (not my eBay listing):

Enjoy!

For the Amiga you can already get one from www.amigamaniac.com for around $35.00AUD and it doesn't require a power supply and gives excellent results!

Oh, I didn't know Nathan was making this! For that price and turn key, you can't go wrong!

Nope, it is great, using it on a 19" widescreen TV 1440 x 900 display with built in dvd player & hd tuner (paid $250AUD for the tv).

I use Nathan's S-Video adapters on a few Amigas here too, they're the best! I get a flicker-free high resolution Workbench on my LCD TV for a fraction of the price of a scandoubler. I made a video demonstration of the adapter a while ago, browsing the web on the A1200 in 1376 x 536, with a rock steady display: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kaz6fNpHYIg

Here's a photo of my A1200 browsing Amiga.org using this adapter through another LCD TV: http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=3152

The only problem is I'm not sure if Nathan has any in stock at the moment, and when people see there's no stock, they leave the site without enquiring when new stock will arrive. This gives the impression that no-one is interested in them, and so there's less chance that a new batch will be made any time soon. What anyone who wants one needs to do is send Nathan an email or sign up on his forum and tell him you're interested in his awesome hardware.

@ redrumloa

I would certainly be interested in such a device for both my C128D and two of my amigas.

Given then way most LCDs buffer and upconvert a ntsc signal anyway this solution makes more sense than a flicker fixer.  Plus much cheaper.

Plus if redrumloa sales them we can get it in the states much more easily.

I'm in the US and am a repeat customer of Amigamaniac's.  Always been a breeze buying stuff from him, including one of these S-Video devices.

I'm in the US and had no problem at all with Amigamaniac's adapter.
Both delivery and function have been great.

Definitely a happy customer.
