Nero Cover Designer.

For some reason, that particular program typifies what I feel is missing on the Amiga that I need to use a PC for, and it's the first thing I think of.

A stable Web browser that is comparable to IE in features. Not that I like IE or anything, but a lot of sites require it nowadays, e.g. web banking, so a direct clone would be nice. :-)

Even if such a thing existed, what are the odds of it being bundled with OS4.0? :-)

a better way of putting it is to say OS4 needs a browser that is code compliant like Opera or a mozilla-like browser.
I don't want a browser for OS4 or MOS that has as many holes or is as stupid as IE.

in addition to what has already been listed, i'd like a good web-creating program like Quanta_pro on linux (that's what i use these days). and, ImageFX, of course.  :-D

A p2p client is a popular choice these days, apparently.

Also nice to have a recent port of Apache and other net tools like samba and privoxy.

Well, Since I discovered  Mediaface I haven't bothered with any other software...

That link takes you to version 4 which is an unknown entity to me as I use the free version 2.

2 things:

-Software that lacks AMiGA (many will have seen/needed some kind of software, that is better on "other" platforms, or it's non-existant for AMiGA)

-The software shouldn't be buggy (even the best OS becomes crap if the applications cannot stand next to it).

As for the "native" versions, that would be nice but not necessary for apps such as IRC, ICQ etc... even the browser with the WarpDT now is flying on my CSPPC.

Office Suit (more word processor than anything) - MUST HAVE = MS office/word document support. This feature should be made easy by MS publishing their ML for documents to the community!!

Browser - duh! Must have uptodate javascript/uptodate HTML/XHTML/XML/XSLT support and a decent plugin archetecture to allow other components such as flash and java to be supported. Tabs would also be a welcome feature :)

Multimedia player - native support for more popular formats such as Xvid, Divx, 3ivx, Quicktime, Windows etc plus audio codecs - i feel that this is basicly already avaliable nothing to worry about, but its an appliation i want so i put it in

Avaliable gcc compiler either on a extra CD or downloadable, as well as developer documentation and a good IDE with gui builder... drag and drop window gadgets/widgets onto you'r program to build a GUI for your application!

Theres prolly a lot more like some open source games, such as Abuse, Xevil, Galaga, and maybe a tetrix clone.. this would be very easy to do, and im surprised windows doesnt come with good games (Win2k was an exception as it came with a cool pinball game, and maybe a few other things :))

Would that be Office compatable? Able to read/write Office documents. If not RTF and/or PDF would be good.

Assuming AmigaOS 4.0 feature level.

Needs;
1. An integrated development environment.
2. OO Case tools.
3. SQL services with management GUI.
4. Full Java implementation.
5. At least Netscape 4 level browser.
6. OLE services clone.

Wants
1. Office suites.
2. dotNET via open source MONO.
3. Sonic Foundry Vega clone.
4. PVR/DVRs.
5. Ulead Video Studio 7 clone.
6. MOYB clone (I need to do my tax return)...
Amiga 1200 PiStorm32-Emu68-RPI 4B 4GB.
Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB, RTX 4080 16 GB PC.

what OS4 needs is a "killer" app. Even a hardware/software combo like the toaster/flyer would be the ticket. If you want to do Office stuff, accounting, or CD burning you might as well use a cheap x86 box with Linux/Windows to do that stuff. Walmart has a linux/x86 box with a 1.2 ghz Duron for $200.  The Draco is a good example of what AmigaOS was great for. Small, fast, and reliable.

I don't use chat or p2p software, so I can't comment on that...  ;-)

I also assume we're talking about stuff that comes with the OS.  For stuff that doesn't, hey, what *shouldn't* you have availabe?  :-D

1) Digital camera suite - The ability to download and organize photos into albums, full DPOF support for online ordering or printing, ratings by megapixel and quality settings (rather than pixel dimentions and technical JPEG metaformat gobblygook), and a proper, standardized naming system.  Slideshow screensavers and books on CD are nice, too.

2) Image viewer - More like ACDSee, less like IE or MultiView.

3) Seperate CD, Video/DVD, and Audio players.  I HATE all-in-one apps.

4) A tool to easily manage drivers, codecs, and other stuff people shouln't have to know about, but do, anyway.  It should also say if a product is 1st party or 3rd party, so users know what came from the manufacturer and what didn't.

5) A very simple DRAG-AND-DROP file converter.  I hate it when people send me screenshots in BMP format, and people bitch that they don't know how to convert PNGs into JPEGs, and so on.  Batch and whole-folder processing is a must.

6) Word processor that saves in RTF format, or similar - I can't stand people who use Microsoft Word or some other high-end office suite to write a damn memo!  You don't need a word processor to write a book report, but you do need a built-in dictionary.

7) An FTP client that works like a folder, and properly describes how CHMOD works - I despise all the CuteFTP clones with muti-windows, tree listings, ubiquious buttons galore...

8) Hardware information tool - A standardized way to monitor or update the BIOS, tell things like temperatures, fan speeds and internal problems, what accessories are in the computer, any special buttons you have on the front of your case (push a button and the machine schedules a backup, etc).

9) DECENT backup software - Something that doesn't just catalog your drive and duplicate files, but exports files onto any CD/Tape/HD/Filesystem/Network, and also ensures data integrity, instead of just making copies.

10) A very basic programming tool, like what AMOS used to be.  Open windows and perform scripts by pushing buttons, open a screen and blit graphics around, graph charts, play music, write games and HAVE FUN with your computer!  Decent mutimedia libraries for a GCC compiler would suffice in a pinch, but a very simple scripting language that combines the best parts of Java, Perl, and BASIC would be awesome.  The ability to write your OWN software was always one of the best things about the C64, Amiga, and Atari, and it's a shame PCs and Macs haven't followed up on that homely computer tradition.  The ability to easily make your own USB devices and drivers would rock, too, though that's a bit too narrow a market.  ;-)

Oh my God, that machine is such a piece of junk.
