C:Iprefs crash after installing 3.9
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:05:53 PM »
I just did a new setup on a 3000.  Stock '030, 2m Chip, 16m Fast, Cybergraphx 64 RTG.

Fresh install of 3.1 and then I installed Cybergraphx 4 and update, install of 3.9 after booting off of 3.9 emergency disk.

At boot I get a C:Iprefs suspend/reboot requester..... and dunno why? :)

Any help appreciated!

Annoying! Maybe try FastIprefs as a replacement...

Are you loading any other patches like mcp etc.?

Did you install from an Emergency Disk?

delete envarc:sys/#?.prefs

Then reboot.

sounds familiar. do not install fastiprefs, but reinstall 3.9 using the emergency disk like thomas suggested. then install boing bag 1+2 first.

Yes, I installed from a newly made emergency disk.

Also, is it best to install the Cybergrapx software before installing 3.9 or after 3.9 and both boing bags?

Thanks for the help guys!

uhm.. you're best off installing OS3.9 on an empty partition.. :) so, after OS3.9 and both boing bags, would be my answer.

I didn't suggest to reinstall, motorollin did. I suggested to delete the incompatible prefs files. I'd do this first, it's easier than to reinstall.

Actually I didn't, I just asked if the OP used an Emergency Disk during the install :)

So install Cybergraphx drivers after installing 3.9 & Boing Bags 1&2?

Excuse my ignorance but what is Iprefs and what does it do??? Sorry, still learning. :)

It reads your preferences from the saved files and applies them to the system. For example if you run Prefs/Screenmode and click on Save, a file envarc:sys/screenmode.prefs with your settings is created. IPrefs reads this file and changes the screen mode accordingly. Additionally IPrefs keeps watching this file in the background and changes the screen mode whenever new settings are saved to it. The same happens to all the other Prefs programs and prefs files.

If you made the emergency disk after installing Cgx, then Cgx should be contained on the disk and you shouldn't need to install it again.

Did you try to delete the prefs files ? Shouldn't be too difficult and should fix your problem.
