Why doesn't someone swoop in and grab the trademark?
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:42:33 PM »
Amiga Inc appear dead, dead, dead. History has shown us McBill likely only licensed the name and trademark from Gateway. Why doesn't someone (company) approach Gateway for a license now that Amiga Inc are (apparently) completely insolvent and dead as a door nail?
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I hope the trademark gets locked up into a legal limbo coffin never to be seen and used again, personally. It's time to let it die.

red unfortunately the only thing gateway kept was the patents on hardware.

The only stupid question is a question not asked.

Win•dows: n. A thirty-two bit extension and graphical shell to a sixteen-bit patch to an eight-bit operating system originally coded for a four-bit microprocessor which was written by a two-bit company that can\'t stand one bit of competition.

Interesting and very possible. It becomes muddier when companies like Individual Computers request proof of ownership of and McBill was unable to produce proof. If nothing else, the trademark has not been used or defended in a long time. For the last renewal, a photo of a 20 year old 1200 baud modem was used.

all i got to say is wow.  if they can't find the paperwork they are on loose ground as far as defending their rights. someone might contest them if that is the case. even if they wouldn't win.

Yeah, hopefully AInc. is dead, but their website being down doesn't mean they are gone for certain. Unfortunately the only person left who might give some insight into whether they are really dead or not, Jamie Krueger, isn't talking.

It's time this brand name stopped suffering abuse. People talk about the "Amiga curse" saying that whoever touches the brand is doomed to failure, but I look at it the other way around - the Amiga brand has been cursed with a flock of failure companies. It would be nice if some conservatory group would buy it out and treat the Amiga for what it was: a great 80's computer. The C64 still has plenty of street cred in this regard.

I'm not sure what you are asking here? The simple answer is the same way your patent any invention.
I think, Therefore - Amiga....

But why would a company that make house extensions with glass walls be a good company to take over Amiga.  I cant see everest or dunraven windows having an interest to be honest.

Right on. It's one of the reasons high-end audio is usually expensive. Nelson Pass is famous for patenting his designs. Jeff Rowland, Bowers and Wilkins, Conrad-Johnson, McIntosh, etc., etc.

Marconi and later RCA held so many radio patents that practically every radio sold in the U.S. had a sticker listing the licensed patents.
There have been engineering breakthroughs by "little guys" who didn't have the money to hire patent lawyers and ,or hire more lawyers to enforce their patent rights against big  unethical corporations.
Some of the garage engineers settled for modest recognition of seeing their invention publicized in hobbyist or company magazines and newsletters. They were the "linux" of  engineers.
