Hi everyone,
Over two weeks ago now I started searching on youtube for Amiga demos out of interest and stumbled upon the classics like Jesus on Es, 9 Fingers and its predecessor.
It took me right back to my childhood growing up with an A500 and all them amazing games that were well ahead of their time and have shaped the future as we know it today.
Retro gaming seems to be making a comeback on mobile devices and as such people re-visit the past like myself.
2 hours later I started googling and found so many sites supporting the Amiga still in existence such as this great forum and I must say I am not surprised as the Amiga was a special computer that everyone who used one will remember fondly.
I see such great sites like AmigaBounty.net which however interesting doesn't seem to have much activity - how long has this site been up? Shame there isn't many people posting bounties as this seems a very unique idea to me, I can think of many applications that require an AmigaOS post, eg. Adobe Flash and Adobe Air so I can play such amazing MMORPGs as
Dofus through to more serious applications such as Open Office, a webchat client, something that resembles the language of AppleScript, RSS feed creators ... ah the list is endless.
After stumbling on AmigaBounty.net I found out who knew the new owners of Amiga are wow a new computer this year... interesting indeed.
If there is one thing I have noticed having looked at a myriad of different sites is that they all designed with the enthusiast/techy in mind and inherently everything is convoluted.
I would love to see a website that is up to date with the average computer user these days with clear sections for the more amiga-savvy techy with glossy graphics and a touch of 2010. There should be a section with Staff Pick downloads and a Top 10 Most Download applications similar to what apple.com do. Ideally there should be a 'Pack' I could download with a pre-configured graphic-rich desktop, icon and gui interface made available to everyone and be a must-download for every potential Amiga user instead of 10,000 variations.
Looking at X1000 Amiga that would be of interest to me as I do have disposable cash at the moment to buy one.
X1000 Amiga must have included as standard if it is to succeed:
Java/Javascript Support
Wireless Support
Web Browser comparable to Safari or Firefox (with CSS support!)
Flash/Air Support
Massive commitment for porting Open Office
Email Client
At least a 1.5 Ghz Processor
Extensive graphically-rich user interface (move away from existing colour scheme) and supply desktop 'themes'.
Eg. this is
exactly how the wallpaper and dock should look like
click here.Other software I'd like to see:
Now seriously I can't see iTunes being ported but
Spotify is highly desirable
Comprehensive Remote Desktop support; control a Mac or PC
And everything users take for granted these days.
Marketing:
1. Must be on TV! This is would how I would do it based on a 3min ad break. Advert 5 seconds long, amiga bouncing ball bounces about and then off the screen followed by random adverts, then a second amiga advert say 15 seconds saying a bit more coming Summer 2010 - ITS back etc! In prime time slots, not at 1am in the morning!
2. Like the funny MAC vs PC adverts available for everyone to see we must have our very own equivalent.
3. Amiga on Twitter, Amiga on Facebook.. whatever it takes to expose the brand. Whatever is seen as 'cool' in 2010.
