Amiga 1200 internal ram chips
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:03:23 PM »
I want to replace the ram chips on the Motherboard with larger ones. I can desolder the old ones just fine (I have the equipment), I am at a loss as to what size chips this unit will take.

There are 4 chips there now for a max of 2MB. What is the largest chip size that I can address internally?

Can I go to 4MB? 8MB? 16MB? I'm sure that I can locate RAM chips that will replace these, just need to know how big I can go!

Thanks!

2 MB of Chip RAM is as high as you can go.  The Lisa chip was never designed to go higher than that.  Commodore went bankrupt before they could improve the design.

Here's a link to the pinouts on the A1200's trapdoor expansion slot if you want to try and build yourself a Fast RAM board  :-)

Actually, Alice is limiting chip RAM size. ;)
