Installing AWeb
« on: March 19, 2010, 06:19:48 PM »
Hi,

I downloaded AWeb from here:
http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/AWeb-3.5.09-68000

I am now trying to install it on Workbench 3.1 but can not understand how to do this!!

Can anyone who has already done this help me ...

When I clock on the icon AWeb (which seems to be a tool icon) I get an error

"Can't open gadgets/button.gadgets version 0"

Does this mean I have to install something else?

Regards,
Sim085

Do you have MUI installed? If not, that should be the first thing you do. After that, you may need to hunt down several random files off Aminet to complete the installation including, but not limited to the various plug-ins for your specific CPU.

MUIUSR38 or something like that, you need to find on Aminet first...

BTW: in my experience, iBrowse works MUCH better than AWeb... do you not have that or are you just trying to play around with AWeb?

Thanks I'll get that. I am working on a new installation on WinUAE and therefore I do not have MUI installed. Will go an install it now :)

To say the truth AWeb just happened to be the easiest one to find from Aminet. IBrowser needs some updates to work well. Yesterday I tried ALynx but did not want to work and did not have time to play with it. I should also have the AMosiac somewhere but also did not do anything about it.

Basically I would like to get all these working and then decide which one to keep :) - if not all four :)

*groan and roll eyes*

AWeb doesnt use MUI, so forget about that.

What you need to install though, is ClassAct and maybe some updates as well. Doesn't the readme tell the requirements?

Thanks Kolla. How embarrassing. Sorry bro.... ClassAct, MUI...

It's only a matter of time before he'll need MUI for something else anyway  :)

Thanks Kolla

Ok, I am going to download ClassAct. Thanks. No this does not seem to be mentioned on the aminet page from where I downloaded it (above).

Sorry to bring this up, but is ClassAct similar to MUI? That is are they the same type of application - used by other applications to build their GUI? If so, can these co-exist?

I'm sure somebody will dissect this to the Nth degree, but in a nutshell - yes, they are similar and yes they can coexist.

Thanks again for all the help. I managed to browse using AWeb. I guess loging in on Amiga.org with such a browser is impossible (is it?) but for now I am happy that I can browse some pages :) Hopefully I will be able to do this on real hardware in the near future :)
