Some nifty stuff

I posted a few nifty items on eBay in case anyone is interested in a few hard to find goodies. Like an SX-1 or an FMV, or perhaps even an AMIGANET LAN (Zorro-II) card.

I'll be posting a "new" (box looks like hell) complete 386SX25 bridgeboard kit and an EMPLANT Deluxe (with an external Mac Drive) today as well in case anyone is interested in actual hardware instead of software emulation. Some A1200 (older tech) FPU/RAM expansions etc. a 600 1MB expansion and some 68030-25 3000/4000 accelerator cards (great for spares or test cards). And whatever else I find time to list today.

Oh and a 1020 5.25 drive.  :-D

I'm using an AmigaNET Zorro II card in my A1500. I'm using an AUI to UTP converter I picked up on eBay for about £1.50.

There are loads listed on American eBay. None on UK eBay at the moment, though it would seem.

 It`s what you plug your UTP into  :-)

UTP= Unsheilded Twisted Pair cable, plugs into an RJ45 connector (bit like a telephone socket), instead of the older coax cable (like TV aerial cable).

Wouldn't it be just as easy to buy a hub or switch that had both Ethernet and Cat5 connections? I sold one 6 months ago on eBay for a whoppin $4.95! (DLink DE-809TC).

Well, I already had a 10/100 Cat 5 UTP switch with my AmigaONE, A4000 and ADSL router attached to it, so it was easiest for me to buy an AUI transceiver to get the Amiga 1500 + AmigaNET talking to the rest of the LAN.

I've got one of those über-rare A1020 5.25" floppy drives, but never managed to get it working on my setup. I imagine since it's what I like to term "OCS Tech" (A1000-era material, like my FutureSound sampler I had to build a parallel interface adapter for since the A1k had a screwy parallel port), I figured it most likely needs a mountlist entry call somewhere. Mine came with ZERO documentation (of course). Does yours?

Or would you have any insight as to how that buddy of yours managed to use it to back up his C64 disk collection?

Yes, for those that recall me, I've got a CatWeasel, but get the impression the A1020 can read the flipside of C64 disks, unlike "PC" 5.25" drives which require hardware modification.

Any data you (or others) can provide on the drive would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume he used Disk-2-Disk.

Disk-2-Disk: Central Coast, Copier; allows A1020 to read/write C64/128 disks. (From "the Amiga Nostalgia List")

I'd assume you could find disk-2-disk online somewhere. (If not I might have it here and can check for you if you're serious about fidning it.)

Disk-2-Disk is an old commercial program for the Amiga by Central Coast Software. There is a demo of it on Aminet (misc/emu/D2D_Demo.lha).

D2D can be used to read data from C64 disks in an unmodified Amiga 5.25" floppy drive. According to the documentation in the demo archive, reading from tracks 1-17 is really slow because the program must do some tricks to account for real 1541 drives having variable speed. (There is a program on Aminet, misc/emu/1541.lha, which can read 1541 disks but this requires that the Amiga drive's speed be reduced physically.)

And just to set the record straight: the 1541 spins at a constant speed, but the disk is divided into three density zones. (also called speed zones... ;-) There are more sectors per track on the outer tracks and less on the inner tracks.

Heh, I'd still say the Blizzard 2060 is the real pinnacle in A2000 acceleration.
