I can only assume that because of the 'A1200HD/40' name they thought it contained a 68040 accelerator card?  Even then it's hellish expensive.

Not sure I have seen many A1200HD/40s on my travels... More rare I would think than an Amiga 1200 with a 68040 accelerator card. Can't recall how much I paid for mine but I had been looking for ages, and really needed them. Saying that, from checking the info on the auction, doesn`t look much like a collector frenzy. More like a hook, line and copy of the Angling Times.... kind of activity.

Images of my 040's. Plus the card they both came with, and the sexy cover.

So what is Aus dollar to pound, like 10 dollars to the pound.

I lucked out on an A1200HD/40 a few years ago on ebay. $100US + shipping, it arrived in the original box, and the computer itself was absolutely mint - still had the clear wrap over the logo. :-P Popped open the trapdoor and it had an Apollo 1230 + SCSI kit inside.

1 AUD$ = 0.60 pounds at the moment, I've been spending big while the dollar is great at the moment with accelerator card, keyboard adapter, etc.

Guys I don't think Commodore ever did an A1200 pack with any expansion cards. The /40 relates to the larger hard drive you could get preinstalled. IF Commodore had of done an accelerator installed, they would have almost certainly manufactured their own:
Quote
The only difference between the A1200 and the A1200HD was the addition of a 2.5" IDE Hard Drive, plus a few extra disks used for hard drive prepping and installation. The standard A1200HD was usually supplied with a 20MB 2.5" IDE Hard Drive, whilst the A1200HD/40 was supplied with a 40MB Hard Drive. For additional information, please see the Commodore A1200.

@Hell Labs

Your just grumpy cos you have 3.0 ROMs and no mouse ;-)
:roflmao:

As for the /40 comments, 1200 is totally correct, the 1200 was flodded with accelerator cards so soon (almost days after launch apparently) C= didn't even seem to attempt to pitch in. GVP, DCE and Blizzard pretty much had the market sewn up.
Still that's a nice 1200 but one hell of alot of money to pay for that badge really.
Though that doesn't beat my link to a Falcon CDTV game for a cool £10k. Hate to think what that guy was smoking but it certainly isn't on prescription.

The shill bidding scenario looks right on this one.  Makes me wonder if a similar thing happened on an ordinary A4000 that went for $1,275 a few weeks ago.  It's hard to believe that knowledgeable Amigans would be insane enough to make such ridiculous bids on any unexpanded A1200, considering that I saw one go for $62 USD in the UK very recently.  A1200s are much less expensive over there than in the USA.  Especially those nice refurbs and NOS units at Amigakit.  Short of a towered A1200 on ebay, I think Amigakit will get any A1200 business I have.
