Commodore A4000T

Just curious, does anybody have one of these?  Has anybody seen one in the wild?  They are better-looking than the cool Escom/QuikPak A4000Ts, but I know they are very, very rare.  I wonder how much they'd command in the market these days.

Yes they are attractive machines but the Escom 4kT's are very nearly as good looking in my opinion.

There was one listed on German eBay 2-3 years ago, if I remember correctly it sold for £2000 or there abouts.

Given that only a couple of hundred found their way into general circulation I would guess serious collectors would pay loads for one, particularly if working and with say some of the original documentation. I have paid close on £1000 for one of my machines cus of the rarity and I wouldn`t want to speculate how much I would invest in one if it came into an auction.

Would have to be with all the original paperwork and hopefully the box. I would pay loads just to get the box to be honest.....

My most wanted is an A3070 and an A1060.

Three ways to get gear....

Get it offered to you for free....

Get it offered to you for a price....

Get it through an auction....

I never set the bar with an offer from cold. Generally these days I get the kit for free so it is maintained within my collection. Next week I travel north to pick up someones collection to add to mine. I am not in this for the money. Just to safeguard the Amiga from extinction and to promote the machine and educate.

If anyone thinks they have something of value that I may want on the basis that I would be prepared to shell loads of cash for they are gonna be dissapointed. What has happened though is that folk that offered me stuff for free I have given anything up to £500 for their trouble. For an auction for an A3000T which I won for £320 I gave the guy £500. I have often given folk money when they expected nothing. Thats a better way round for me. I always offer the giver the rights over the machine so if anything happened to me they could have the kit back.

So if anyone wants to give me a Commodore A4000T I would be more than happy to take the machine and store on your behalf, with the likely swapping of a few thousand quid as a sign of gratitude. No guarantees.

I was recently given a KIM-1. It certainly pays to promote your collection by way of a website as people do like seeing their treasures looked after, safe and visible on the internet. I have never sold anything from my computer collection and never will. Eventually it will be gifted to another collector.

A400Ts were certainly few and far between... at the time they came out (mid '90s?), you could also (if you knew the right people at C=/Escom buy just the motherboard and fit it to any old PC tower case... which is exactly what I did!

Wondering how many other people have a A4000T in a NON C=/Escom case?

Just so happens I moved my A4000T ver 4 motherboard back into it's original case today.  It has the Amiga Technologies Gmbh Label on the back.  
I had moved it into a larger case shortly after getting it, to accommodate the 386 Bridgeboard. With it and Ami, all the drives, floppy, Harddrive, CDRom, etc, I need more space.  
Last year I pulled all the Bridgeboard stuff out and today moved Ami back into the original case.

The "Turbo" button is a internal speak on/off button.

i just talked to Joe at software hut about some parts for my a1200. He told me the 4000's he has left are stock, in sealed boxes still and are 1000$ I believe he said, but check in with him if your really interested.

I've only ever seen one of these in person once, in a television studio that looked like they spent quite alot of money on gear.

I'd love to have one someday, but since they are so incredibly rare,I think I might build an a1200 full tower first. If I had the right parts, it would be almost as good I think, and somehow I always prefer custom builds.

But they aren't rare, they're sitting on a shelf waiting to be bought. Expensive maybe, but not rare.  I bought three just last year!

Oh, and there's no comparison between a 1200T and a real 4000T.  1200T is a jigsaw puzzle of hassle, I was glad to see mine go.
