I had a dream last night
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:06:53 PM »
Dear Friends:

I had an amazing dream last night.
In it, I was playing games on an amiga 500 (which I do not own anymore)
and was having a great time, and the graphics in the 500 looked super !!!
I enjoyed my dream !!!
Maybe is time for me to get an amiga 500 ?
Love !!!

Yep, it's a sign you need to be re-enjoying the Amiga in physical form again! A500's can be had cheap and are a great bargain for playing games off floppy.

Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3.

Playing that reminds me of the old Amiga games.

Simple but addictive.

I've not played a ridge racer game newer than revolution, but I play the first one all the time.

is the "RIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGEEEEE RAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCEEEEERRRR" still in it? I love how annoying that guy is.

If your dreaming about Amiga's then things must have gotten serious. Though I hope you don't expect more then what a 500 can handle. Sadly reality often sucks.

To be fair, he probably thought RR was as popular in america as it is in the rest of the world. It's not his fault the audiance got it wrong.

I had a similar dream (actually had the same dream about 3 times) about the Vic-20 (my first computer), in which the games had amazing quality graphics (movie-like CGI)...

Do you have a photo of this in robot form?

Hey Rednova, keep dreaming about Amigas, we might bump into each other on the astral plane ;)

I can't remember the last night when my dreams didn't have Amigas in them, they're too much of an important part of my life now.

And I think getting an A500 set up for gaming is great! I have one in the games room (as well as here in the office) set up for multiplayer games on the big TV in front of the couch. I just wish I had one of those IDE68K expansions so I could install all the games on the HDD (with WHDLoad) instead of having to get up and swap disks all the time. You have to swap three (of five) disks six times or something just to get into the first fight of Super Street Fighter II OCS.

Let me tell you about a weird experience! Somewhere around early 90's, when Amiga market was slowly dying, I had this recurrent dream about entering my local computer shop and seeing the stands fully loaded with amiga games, specially adventure ones, my favourite type.

It was a sad dream, though, the kind of dream you have when you're close to awake and realize you wish all of it were real... but it isn't. At my local computer shop Amiga games had already been displaced for PC and console stuff. My dream image of the Amiga stand was so vivid... but I knew I would never see that again...

Time passed, Amiga was finally wiped out, I just forgot, life moved on...

...and unexpectedly some 20 years later I find myself bumping into retro-computing forums and meetings, making a bunch of new friends there, becoming a classic text adventure (and in fact any other kind of adventure) collector, buying 8 and 16 bit hard and soft and beeing and active Amiga user... again. I live somewhere else and my local computer shop is long gone. My room itself has changed a lot through the years. Now I've got a set of wood shelves where I drop my adventure collecting things, which include a lot of Amiga games. Yesterday I was reading this thread and glanced at it, and it was the proverbial gaze into the abbys, cause as blurry and distorted and misplaced as it could be, the image of my shelves  were the same as in my younghood sad recurrent dreams of Amiga adventure games loaded stands.

Ouch, bittersweet memories of things that could be... and weren't.

...

Then again, you know, you can time-travel in the astral plane, so maybe I met Rednova and Cammy there last night and they devilishly fooled me into sending that image to my former self dreams just to tease him a bit. Oh, I hate you for that :D

My pulse rate use to quicken whenever I went to the Amiga shop. I don't get that buzz from the PC. Poor Cammy doesn't (may not) know what it is like to see 2 walls of new/recent release Amiga Games. Good ole days.
