Browser compatibility: IE6 is dying - whatcha gonna do now?
« on: February 24, 2010, 06:13:26 PM »
I've been noticing over the last few days a number of stories explaining how major web sites, from YouTube to PayPal and others are quickly phasing out support for the now long-decaying Internet Explorer 6.x...

I then start to thinking that even the newest Amiga browser for the classic platform was created long before IE4 was even invented, and I begin to ponder the impact on the platform.

I know this is all pretty much troll bait, but that's REALLY not my intent.  The lack of a real browser on the platform IS a pet peeve of mine, but I guess my only real question is this:

If there isn't even one developer or hobbyist in this community willing -- or able -- to step up and write a browser that's even basics compatible with modern standards, what will you guys do when the world adapts HTML 5 (which is coming VERY soon)?

...and owb for os4.x and mos2.x are very good, so far...
now, if you are talking about 68k-wb3.x, we are in 2010, it's time to move on, isn't it?

We'll....this is one of the main reasons that I haven't used an Amiga as my main machine since maybe 1998? :)

I get a disturbing percentage of hits on the old browser proxy by browsers claiming to be IE running on Windows XP. No doubt a certain number of those are amiga browsers spoofing the user agent, but still...

But Wayne, you forget Amiga users live in an alternate universe where it is the 1990's forever. Rest easy, CSS, Web 2.0 and HTML 5 will never be invented!

By "the world", you mean Youtube?

It's on my list, right after the upgrade to IPV6.  That's coming soon you know!!

Gave up even trying to browse the web on an Amiga in 2001.  Even by then it was unusable.
