Some guy recently paid through the nose for a "new old stock" A4000T from SoftHut. He was so excited he filmed himself taking it out of the box and put the video up on youtube. Turned out it was dead on arrival.

haha, no shit?

What are we gonna guess, capacitor leakage, or battery acid leakage? Atleast with the first kind of "my hardware is melting" you can rinse it off!
A1200 Computer Combat. OS3.0. No accelerator, no fastram, mouse soon. And ebaying it.

Capacitor leakage can eat traces too, and there's generally no "leakable" batteries in the 4000Ts (lithium cells.)

Yeah, but aren't amiga boards comparatively simple, socketed chips, etc? I imagine you could replace damaged traces with some thin wire?

No, 600, 1200, 4000, 4000T are mostly SMT.  The damage is generally repairable, but not without some decent equipment.

Ahh right. So the manufacturing process was something they actually did bother to keep current... good to know.

That was me.  Appears possible CPU board is bad.  Soft Hut is sending me a replacement.  Hope to know soon if that takes care of issue.

BTW, these A4000T they sell have a 6 month warranty, so, even though old new stock, we have protection with a decent warranty.

I hope to have a running A4000T soon.  I am excited to start using it.  Even brand new systems have a DOA once in a while and shit happens.  These have been sitting for a very long time I am sure but Joe at Soft Hut is a decent guy and a good seller it appears and should be taking care of the issue as we speak.

So, am I still excited.  You bet I am.  :)
