Front A4000 CF bay??
« on: February 22, 2010, 02:20:10 PM »
Afternoon all, my A4000 boots from the internal CF (OS 3.9).  What I was hoping to try and do was to use the front floppy / cd bay to house another CF adapter on the IDE chain (is that even possible!) to be able to move software from my PC back and forth to the A4000.

Essentially I think that this may be the most convenient way of getting software to / from my A4000 without buying a network card.

I've had a look on Amiga Kit and can't really see anything that would do what I need.  Any ideas?

Thanks all

John

I got a backplate cf/ide adaptor of Evilbay for a couple of quid from China.

Works a treat and was very easy to do.

Only inconvinience is that it's at the back of the 4000D but as I only want to swap stuff now and again it's not too bad.

i don`t know why no ones tryed the SCSI to PCMCIA iv used it and it works fine,it may not be as fast as CF on a IDE bus,but its more flexable.

i have dual slots so i can transfer data between two CF cards, but it also has a advantage of HOT SWAP.

do a search on EBAY for device which fits in floppy bay.

this is what my device can do.

it can be config as one SCSI id but shows LUN 0 and LUN1 (two CF cards)

or

it can be config to use two SCSI ID unit 0 and unit 1 (but can be config upto unit 7 using two SCSI ID).
it`s also bootable but iv never tested my unit with CF cards but it does support CF cards,iv only tested my unit with two microdrives.

Well, considering that he's asking about a solution for A4000D, which doesn't have SCSI built in, we naturally mentioned some IDE options. Btw, the solution I linked also supports 2 CF cards simultaneously.

Thanks guys - that's exactly what I'm after.  Unfortunately the guy on eBay seems only to ship to the US but I will email and ask him if he can ship to UK :)
