Just my luck now where to find parts for A1200?
« on: February 19, 2010, 05:22:24 PM »
I have been back to amiga with a dedicated amiga emulation pc and aros for awhile now. I finally had a chance to get an amiga 1200, having been drooling over alot of classic amiga hardware for some time.

So some time ago, I planned on buying an indivision, a pcmcia network card, and a hard drive with os3.9 pre-installed from amigakit.

The 1200 I have has a 50mhz 68030 accellerator with 32 megs ram.

There is no network card, scandoubler or hard drive/cd-rom.

So now I check amigakit and none of those items I just looked at literally a few weeks ago are available... Does anyone know of anyplace else I can get these parts together quickly?

If you have any of these items in used but working condition and would like to help, please pm me, otherwise some sources for these parts and items would be so greatly appreciated. Any scandoubler that will let me do 1024x768 256 colors, any pcmcia network card that will work, and anyone with a 2.5 inch ide or cf card solution with os3.9 pre-installed...

Right now I'm a little frustrated,I'm stock with a pretty much stock a1200, no way to get files to and from her, no hard drive, and an old 1084, which is fine for games but not so good for everything else.

Please help me get this miggy upgraded and back to use!

Steven

...there's a wireless card and a PCMCIA<>CF adapter solution right there. I'd go for the latter and skip the wireless deal personally. Second link shows an internal "hard drive" solution that plugs into your 2.5" IDE port. I don't know if Amigakit would preinstall OS3.9 or not, but if they offer that service (I'd assume you'd need to purchase 3.9), then all you'd need is the internal CF adapter kit, but you'll eventually want the PCMCIA solution for the transferring of files to and fro.

Have you emailed Amiga Kit to ask if they will be re-stocking the items you want.

Softhut at http://www.sofhtut.com is a good Amiga shop, you should phone and ask Joe.

I do see they offer a 2.5 inch hard drive and can preinstall it with os3.9 for an extra fee, they are apparently out of the pcmcia network card and indivision a1200 scandoubler.

I would prefer a regular network wired deal not wireless.

I did email them, and I also emailed Joe at Softwarehut as well. Hopefully I can find this stuff, just very anxious to get her going!

I think I will just put her away for awhile while I scour for parts, its torture right now having her sit there next to my pc.

Any more suggestions for parts or upgrades, especially if your selling something I'm all ears.

The other thing I was thinking about is that internet on even the 50mhz 30 will be pretty painful, so maybe I'd be better off just using a cf card to transfer files or getting a catweasel. Any thoughts on this if you've done so?

Thanks!

Okay then, for pcmcia ethernet -> on ebay as buy it now options. You need the card and the cable/dongle:

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=3c589+pcmcia&_sacat=See-All-Categories

The driver for Amiga is available here:
http://aminet.net/driver/net/3c589.lha

It is less than 15 USD including shipping if you choose the two downmost options :)

Steven - don't let it sit there man. :) I would take Gulliver's advise and hit fleabay for the ethernet and get the driver. You could always keep an eye out for a RTG card and then work on a tower project for it with the ZIV I still have sitting around as well.

Sorry I didn't have a working 2.5 for it.

Here are some cheap links for you:

44pin IDE-CF adapter - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10310
PCMCIA CF adapter - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23791
PCMCIA Multi-Card adapter - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23720

I use these myself on the A1200 and A600. I also use two of those 3com PCMCIA ethernet cards that Gulliver linked to on eBay, they're very good cards for Amigas. An updated driver was just uploaded to Aminet a couple of weeks ago.

If you want to run your A1200 030 in 1024x768 HighGFX there is one other flicker fixer/scan doubler that works other than the Indivision but I forget the name. Let's hope they release a new batch of Indivisions soon. If you're worried about it running slowly, it's best to run in 16 colours and have FBlit running. I browse the web on my A1200 in 16 colours, you just need a GOOD locked palette like I use (well, you need THIS palette, you'd be hard pressed to make a better one after the years of tweaking this one has had). Here's what it would look like in 16 colours - http://www.amiga.org/gallery/images/2061/1_SabreOS3Screenshot.png
Browsing the web is no problem other than CSS-heavy sites, and luckily Karlos has developed a proxy for us to use so the site looks and works great in IBrowse and AWeb.
Hey, you'll be able to install and play DYNAMITE against us! Online Bomberman action with the few remaining players of this game. There are three regular game servers for it, but hardly anyone logs in to the free game anymore and I'm left playing against bots most of the time.

Do you have a mediator? if you do i have a (i think) an s3trio pci card to get you rtg display which should give 1024 x 768 res and 256 colours.

Sean,

I'm so thankful to have this don't worry about the rest I'll find the parts.

Btw everyone, Sean was awesome enough to donate this amiga1200 and accellerator and ram to the cause.  What a great guy!

Found 3.1 kick roms, ordering tonight. Found cf card to ide adapter with a cf card preinstalled with os3.1/amigasys aga. Ordering tonight.

Now what I really need is just the scandoubler. Sean, I'd love to tower this guy, I will work on that full tower case I told you about and see what I can do about that, but I thought it would first be best to get hard drive/ file transfers and hopefully internet working.

Cammy,

I didn't even think about using the pcmcia port on the 1200 to transfer files...

If I get the multi reader, will that show up on workbench as a drive when I plug in a cf card into that? I didn't think of that great solution/idea for getting files to it from my windows pc... I have a newer hp windows pc that has a multi card reader right on the front, I know it works for my camera memory card but never used it for anything else...

carvedeye, I don't have the towering kit yet but I'm hoping to bribe Sean for one very soon, if you want to sell me your video card, pm me I'd be happy to get it, wouldn't that allow 1024x768x16 bit? I guess if I'm going to go rtg, I'd prefer the best res/colors possible.

Thanks for everyones help and support, especially Sean's. He also got me obsessed with looking at morph os screenshots, and I think I see a mac mini in my near future, but first I need to get this 1200 rocking.

Thanks all,

Steven

I Forgot!

Thanks a bunch gulliver, I will be ordering two cables and two of those cards... I have no way to transfer files right now but I'll get something going so I can get the drivers on the 1200.

Looks like this a1200 will be coming together soon. Can't wait for all these parts to get here and get this baby going! Thanks again all!

Your welcome!

I am glad that you Amiga will get some use.

By the way, Individual Computers will build another batch of Indivisions for A1200 in the first half of this year. You could either wait, or buy a brand new cheap external scandoubler (about 60 USD). If you are interest i can tell you where to buy it!

Anyway, good luck!

Are you sure you want to make it a tower? I could understand If you were going to build a crazy ppc/voodoo setup, but I think a 030 would be best served with an indivision aga and the normal case.
A1200 Computer Combat. OS3.0. No accelerator, no fastram, mouse soon. And ebaying it.

Yes not sure I want to make it a tower, but thats a possibility in the future, for now I just want to keep in in its beautiful case with alot of extra love jammed inside.

Gulliver, yes please tel me where I can get a good external scandoubler... There will not be indivisions available until may or june I'm told. I'd like to get anything for now and buy that later. I can always use the 60$ external scandoubler for a 500 or other amiga.

Please pm me or post a source for that external scandoubler, I'd like to order it right away...

A good way of transferring data from PC to Amiga 1200 or 600 is EasyADF PCMCIA CF Transfer Kit (exclusive to http://www.amigakit.com )

We are regularly updating the software to make it the best transfer software for the Amiga.  The latest new feature of EasyADF is Backup Hard Disk to Compact Flash with a few simple clicks of the mouse.

We also produce our EasyNet networking software for use with PCMCIA network cards.
