Cocolino driver, anyone?
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:53:04 PM »
I've bought a second-hand Cocolino so I can use a pc ps2 mouse. It all works fine, but now I want to use the scrollwheel and found out that I need driver software first. I didnt know it needed any!

I've contacted Elbox but they dont want to send it to me, they demand some serial number that should be on the device. (there is nothing on it). I've even supplied them with pictures of the device, just to prove I really have one! (and I have no idea why I would want driver software for a device I do not posses anyway)

So, can someone please be so kind to send me this driver by email? You can do this anonymous if you want.
Amiga 1200 (1d4) Kickstart 3.1 (40.68), Elbox Power/Winner tower (450w psu), BlizzardPPC 603e+ @240mhz & 060 @50mhz, 256MB, Bvision, IDE-fix Express, IndivisionAGA, 120GB IDE, cd, dvd, Cocolino, Micronik Keycase, PCMCIA Ethernet, Ratte monitor switcher, Prelude1200, triple boot WB3.1 / OS3.9 / OS4.1, Win95 / MacOS8.1

This is something that should have been on Aminet AGES ago. I have been in the same boat as you for a few years now without any luck.

Hi,

Give this a try.

See  http://aminet.net/util/mouse/FreeWheel.readme

"FreeWheel Version 2.2.1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little tool to fine-tune your mouse,
this time for owners of wheelmice, trackballs or 3-button mice.
Copyright 1999, 2090  by  Alastair M. Robinson
Do you own a wheelmouse?
Are you disappointed with the amount of software which supports the wheel?
If this sounds like you, then you'll love FreeWheel!
FreeWheel can scroll any window which either contains standard gadtools scrollbars, or listens for cursor up/down keypresses.
Clicking of the wheel-button (or MMB on non-wheeled mice) can be mapped to several functions, including the ubiquitous MMB-Shift.
FreeWheel also provides continuous adjustment of mouse speed, between 33% and 300%, via a hotkey-accessible GUI."
FreeWheel does not work without cocolino.driver.
Cocolino ... over-rated and over priced rubbish IMHO
I use one of these, so much better as no drivers needed except for middle wheel on the mouse.
Eh that is nice !! But who was talking bout middle-mouse-button ? That should be no prob for every mouse-adapter as there is a dedicated input on the Amiga's mouseport.
Useing the scrollwheel on the other side requires some tricks.
I do have an microsyms and it has 2 distinct setting, one 3 buttons, no driver required and the other with scrollwhell-support, freewheel required.
What does freewheel do ? Well it boils down to the adapter sending pulses over the middle-button input and freewheel decoding them to up or down movements.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else
No, FreeWheel does nothing like this. What you describe is exactly what cocolino.driver or in your case the Micromys driver does.
FreeWheel is a commodity, not a driver. It translates one kind of input events (mouse wheel movements) into another kind of input events (cursor up/down keys and scroll bar movements).
If there is no hardware driver which feeds wheel movements into the input stream, FreeWheel has nothing to translate and therefore does nothing.
Bye,
Thomas
Some kind soul has sent me a dms image of the driver. Will install tonight and then install the Freewheel software. Thomas is right, this software needs the Cocolino driver!
Hello again. For those interested, here's the result of installing the software.
The cocolino driver turned out to be an executable that was copied to sys:c/, amazing! when started, nothing happens. However, when I run newmouse, the middlebutton works, but the scrollwheel doesnt. Does this mean my mouse isnt compatible? I couldnt find any place to configure my mouse in the program.
I've tried Freewheel aswell, but it gave very weird results, selecting text, flicking screens, stuff like that.
NewMouse is a driver for serial mice. It is completely unrelated to the Cocolino and does nothing for it.
The middle button should work without any driver already. The scroll wheel only works with cocolino.driver running.
This shouldn't happen. In fact you need FreeWheel to get any benefit from the scroll wheel. Without it, only very few applications support the wheel. AWeb for example.
right, I guess the statements on various websites concerning newmouse and the cocolino.driver are somewhat confusing. at least they confused me aswell:
The input events generated by Cocolino.driver are compliant with the format used by the NewMouse program (by Alessandro Zummo). This ensures full compatibility with all the existing wheel-support software.
even more confusing when the only way to configure the middle mouse button is using freewheel or newmouse.
Will try freewheel again, hope there is some way to configure a bit more.
I've not used NewMouse, so can't comment on it, but I can say that my optical scrollwheel mouse works as expected with cocolino driver and FreeWheel installed.
