Amiga 25th Anniversary???
« on: February 09, 2010, 01:50:23 AM »
I haven't seen any talk here about plans for any meetings, celebrations, or even online events for the Amiga's 25th Anniversary this Summer.

Are there any plans for anything to celebrate this anniversary here on A.org?

Also, this thread might be a good place for members here to place information about any meetings, parties, or other kinds of celebrations of the Amiga's 25th Anniversary that they are planning, or planning on attending.

I would like to plan something at my house if any are interested in joining me for a day or a weekend of Amiga fun.  I'll have to do some research to find which date would be most appropriate, but I am guessing the announcement date where Commodore did the press release on July 24th, 1985 at the Lincoln Center in New York City would be the best date to choose.

A quick look at the calendar shows me that July 24th falls on a Saturday this year, which is perfect for an Amiga get together, either for the day, or for the whole weekend.

Anyone wanting to come to Big Bear Lake, California for an Amiga celebration contact me through my email address shown in my profile here on A.org. (see the "about me" tab)

hi

JUST brain storming but what about a campaign like the Killing in the Name campaign at
x mass time here in the UK

if we use sunshine on a rainy zoe
it’s a good tune and if was used on
an amiga advert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlzUu5LYw1k
any one who does not know it was funny! they all down loaded this track from itune or whatever to stop  an x factor recored for being no.1

In December 2009, a campaign was launched on Face book by Jon and Tracy Morter which generated nationwide publicity and took the track "Killing in the Name BY Rage Against the Machine" to the coveted Christmas Number One slot in the UK Singles Chart, which had been dominated for four consecutive years from 2005 by winners from the popular TV show The X Factor.

I am all for a gathering in the south-east or east-coast area.  I believe a few more would be on board with this.  I have not been to an AmiWest, ever, though every year I pledge to make it -- the cost in money or time has just been too much for me.

Anyone else?  I think a 25th year party would be great, especially if surrounded by a convention showcasing the entire history, from start to present, demonstrating what imagination, creativity, sweat and tears can do.

I didn't know it was announced in my backyard (Lincoln Center).  I did attend this function they had in Javits Center where NewTek was also demonstrating the Video Toaster Amigas.

Perhaps, I can finish a new version of MPDOS Pro by July 24th.

Great, try to put something together with as many Amiga users you can find to attend.  Have a party, take some pictures to post here afterward and maybe we can all meet on IRC, and/or a free Skype group video call from several different Amiga parties for a few minutes.

It would be fantastic if we can encourage people to get together on the same day at the same time and document how many people still enjoy using, emulating, developing new hardware/software for, or at least fondly remember the Amiga computer.  Let's spread this idea to all Amiga related websites and perhaps even some non-Amiga computer related websites and see how many people World wide we can get to celebrate the Amiga's 25th Anniversary on July 24th, 2010.  Party and celebrate in what ever way you will enjoy the most on that day with as many Amiga user friends as you can gather together and send the number of attendees to this thread so we can get a count and publish it for all the World to see just how many people still use, emulate, or think fondly of their past use of the Amazing Amiga that was ignored in almost all histories of the computer revolution of the 1980's.

I am sure I can get at least two Amiga friends to attend and might be able to talk another 3 to 5 into coming to my home to celebrate.  How many can all of you get to commit to getting together on that date to celebrate the Amiga?

Party like it's 1999!

I did a search here for "25th" and nothing came up about the Amiga's 25th Anniversary?

When did you put up that website and how much reaction have you had so far?

I would like the Amiga community to make as much noise over the next 5 months leading up to July 24th, 2010, so much so that we could actually get noticed in some non Amiga news agencies and computer websites and have them acknowledge that we are still here, small as we might be, and that work continues on AmigaOS4.x, MorphOS2.x and AROS.

Not that it will make any difference, but it would be so nice to get some recognition and raise awareness and respect for what the Amiga was and less so what it continues to be.

I'd like to help organise an Australian Amiga convention, but the place I have in mind is on the Gold Coast, so would any Australians fancy a trip to the Gold Coast around our Winter?

Dave, the Commodore Vegas Expo is July 24-25.  At last Saturday's SCCAN meeting, we talked about meeting at your place in June.  Everybody at that meeting said that June would be ideal.

There still is a Sydney Amiga user group:

http://www.saug.org.au/

I'm going to head over there and see if they have anything planned.

@ Cammy Why the Gold Coast in particular?

Fanscale, because that's where I live and I can't afford to travel far away :p Technically even though I live in NSW, it's still part of the Gold Coast being so far North (right on the border). It's an overnight trip on the bus and then train to get down to Sydney, and I couldn't afford any place to stay for the night.
