Using PC Floppy cable on an Amiga
« on: February 06, 2010, 01:21:45 PM »
The floppy drive cable on my A2000 is faulty and half the games i tried dont work.

To confirm it was the floppy cable i used a cable from an old AT pc and now all the games work perfectly :)

Problem is that when it is on the boot screen (Hand holding the disk) the drive click (while waiting for disk) is at a faster rate than normal and the start screen comes on and off.

This is not a major problem as once a disk is inserted it is fine.

Is there some mod that can be done to the cable (switching the wires or something) that i can do so that the cable will be fully compliant with the Amiga?

I dont know if it makes a difference but the floppy drive being used was pulled from a broken A500.

Sorry for the long post but i like to be clear :D

From what I've seen, DF0's cable is just straight through when using a real Amiga floppy drive.

It's been quite a while since I have had an A2000, but didn't the drive cable have two wires flipped?  #10 and 16 come to mind. Or was that for the second drive (if used).

I'm certain most PC cables had a 'twist' in the middle of the cable.

the twist is between the first and second plugs. you should use part of the cable where there's no twist (eg mobo plug and first plug)
