Connecting a printer... (C= MPS-1270A)
« on: November 14, 2003, 08:28:20 PM »
Tell me, should I disconnect/insulate the 14th pin? I've been told that there's a +5V there and it'll burn the printer just after connecting. Also Amiga-related magazines confirm that statement. However, it's a Commodore printer (MPS-1270A InkJet - that "A" stands for Amiga version) so I'm not sure if that's necessary, maybe it needs that voltage.
Please, share your suggestions, it'd be a pity to blow up such a nice printer.
Cheers...

disconnect, no
insulate, yes, make sure it sitll fits though and/or the tape might not get stuck in the other port...

Not sure about the compatibility with the printer though...

I've used many centronics printers, including the C= MPS series, with the standard Amiga parallel port and a standard centronics cable, no problems.

Pin 14 is the autofeed line (output from the computer end) which most printers don't care about.
As it goes to a TTL level input on the printer, it will not cause any damage.

If you disconnect this line (also pin 14 in the 36 way contronics connector) then it should not make a difference either.

Castellen, and are any dedicated drivers for MPS-1270? Or should I just select other one to emulate?
Cheers...
