You need to find yourself a HD that's not so rigid! lol  Seriously, that's pretty darn big for an Amiga setup. Search this site for help. Installing huge HD's have been discussed to death here. IDEfix97 was discussed in a thread quite recently.

Here's a linky or two for you:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26945&highlight=partitioning+hard+drive

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50628&highlight=large+hard+drive

...and from there, try typing the words 'large hard drive' or 'partitioning hard drive', 'installing hard drive', etc. in the search field. The answers are out there.

Make sure the os3.9 rom update is working. use check4gb from aminet to see if everything's patched correctly. install drive using hdtoolbox in os3.9. use fixhddsize from aminet if size is not recognised correctly. I have to use the diskchange command from idefix to mount partitions above 4gb.
Amiga 1200 (1d4) Kickstart 3.1 (40.68), Elbox Power/Winner tower (450w psu), BlizzardPPC 603e+ @240mhz & 060 @50mhz, 256MB, Bvision, IDE-fix Express, IndivisionAGA, 120GB IDE, cd, dvd, Cocolino, Micronik Keycase, PCMCIA Ethernet, Ratte monitor switcher, Prelude1200, triple boot WB3.1 / OS3.9 / OS4.1, Win95 / MacOS8.1

Sorry bro... assumed it would have still been good  :(

Have you installed IDEfix yet?

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/IDEfix97

...and then followed rvo_nl's advice?

What happens when you select 'Partition Drive' instead of trying to install it?

Are there *any* DH0???, etc. Icons on the Workbench at all?

well, if you are sure scsi.device is patched by the rom update (use check4gb to check) and the drive has correct jumper(s) set and you can only INSTALL instead of PARTITION, then.. then I am lost for ideas..

Perhaps you can do it my way: boot from cold to workbench 3.1 (disk), then install the drive (as 4gb or 8gb, obviously). then boot from your other drive into os3.9 and use fixhddsize to save correct information in RDB.

Yeah, we might have missed something obvious here... but I am not positive about how this would be interpreted. What I mean is, if you didn't have the proper device mounted, I'm guessing HDToolBox would not have brought the drive up to be installed. But, out of curiosity, what model computer are you trying this on and what's your ribbon cable hooked to? Hooked directly to the computer or do you have a card such as a GVP or A2091 Hardcard?

And you're sure it's terminated properly? Set to last device?

The Mounter program can only mount partitions. If you didn't create any partitions on this disk yet, then there is nothing you can mount. Rigid Disk Block (RDB) is the name of the Amiga parition table. Similar to Master Boot Record (MBR) on a PC harddrive.

There's something wrong with the drive or your computer. Check that all cables are properly connected, that the jumpers are set correctly and that enough power is supplied to the drive.

You could also try another disk if you have one. Or try to prepare the disk with WinUAE before you put it into the Amiga.

Bye,
Thomas
