Catweasel MK4 Plus
« on: January 17, 2010, 06:46:18 AM »
I have a Sam440ep and a mountain of original Amiga software which I have purchased over the years. Most of this software is on floppy disk.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a catweasel on a Sam running AmigaOS4? I have seen mention that someone is working on an AmigaOS4 driver for the cat weasel but how usable is it all?

We have tested the latest Catweasel MK4 Plus driver for OS4 on the SAM440.  It works with reading/writing disks however it is incomplete and there are some bugs still present.

Thanks for the information and your honesty on the current state of the drivers. How bad are these bugs?

I am using it on my AmigaOne XE being able to read Amiga disks and create ADF files of them. There was a clear statement on the readme of driver version I have downloaded that only reading capabilities are possible. Writing features were disabled, thta means that there was no possibility to format or write @ 880k  I did the tests lets say early-mid summer. Maybe there has been a newer version of the driver bringing back the writing features.

Yes, there is a newer version - but it's not publically released. I can email it to you if you like.

I could stick it on OS4Depot (it's better than that version as it has read/write support) but it's not really finished, as you can't format MS-DOS disks for some reason.

PM me your email address and I'll mail you a copy when I can.

Hrmmm, sounds like it will currently do about 80% of what I want which is to install some older applications and to create some adf's to use under uae.

Creating ADFs works just fine as it's just a read. You can even use the publically available one on OS4depot for that, probably.

I installed North and South on my AmigaOne using my driver with no problems, except I had to manually dump the disk as the installer was expecting to use DF0: to read the image.

I went out and bought one of these for my Sam440ep. Unfortunately, it appears I needed a riser card that goes in the opposite direction to that which is supplied with the Sam for the case I have. Time to try and annoy the company I got the case from for the appropriate PCI riser card.
