Video of Jeri Ellsworth @ Chicago C= Expo 2000
« on: January 13, 2010, 12:14:11 AM »
Deep from the coffers of RB Productions comes another historical video - Jeri Ellsworth at the Chicago Commodore Expo 2000. She was making her first presentation of the C64 24-bit graphics board, which eventually became the CommodoreOne (which became the C1 and can run a Minimig core).

See other renown Commodorians at the presentation, too -- Dave "Snogpitch" Witmer, Dale Sidebottom (who is doing most of the questioning), Steve Grassman, Per Olofsson, Linda Tanner, Ryan Czerwinski, Nate Dannenberg, Raymond Day, Steve Judd, and the voice of Roger Lawhorn.

For some reason, I couldn't find the original Digital 8 tape of the presentation but found a VHS copy (?!?!). The VHS copy was converted, and the presentation is now posted at

Nice video.  Thanks.
Who is Ryan Czerwinski, and what did he do?  Is that the Merlancia guy?

Yeah, that's the Merlancia guy. I remember that expo, because he ended up at my table when we all went out for dinner afterwards.

I don't remember him.  He grew more famous (infamous) later on.  My mind was on other things that night.  The woman I rode with had her vehicle puke and she had to have it towed back to Michigan.  Her, her son, and I had to hitch a ride back to Michigan with Maurice Randall and Raymond Day.  The problem was Maurice's vehicle was full because of the things he brought to the expo so we had to rent a Uhaul trailer to put his things in so we could fit in his station wagon.  He was only going to Lansing so we had to arrange for someone to meet us there in the middle of the night.

Interesting story about Maurice Randall. You still in contact with him? Any insight on why CMDRKEY turned out the way it did?

I haven't talked to Maurice in years.  I don't know what happened with his problems but it was completely out of character for the Maurice I knew.  Him and I were pretty close at one time.  I was even mentioned and thanked in a couple of his instruction manuals.  I should drive down to Charlotte and see him one of these days because he still should have two of those C128 accelerators of mine that he had fixed.

I bought GEOS and a few utilities from Maurice a few years ago (5?) and ordered a hard drive for the 64.  Got the software and never heard anymore about the hard drive.

I just looked at CMDRKEY.com and Maurice posted a message in November about a new direction.  He also mentions cbmfiles.com where he has posted the GEOS system and the complete GENIE Commodore 8-bit libraries.

Hope Maurice is doing well.  I'm wondering what new direction he has in mind.   I still might like a hard drive....

Bob

You weren't charged for the CMD hard drive were you? AFAIK Maurice no longer has a license for CMD products. I have no inside information, just an educated guess since based on what I have heard in the 8bit community. Brain Innovations is now the legal distributor of JiffyDOS.

-edit-
BTW, the uIEC is the cat's meow if used with JiffyDOS!

:)  He was quite a character.  Dave, I'll have to look at the video more closely to see if you are in the background, too.  :)

I have no inside information, just an educated guess since based on what I have heard in the 8bit community.

From the Homestead mailing list, Nov. 12, 2009 --

My license agreement has expired with Mark Fellows and until I sign a new agreement, I cannot produce any new CMD products. I can finish up the orders I have, which is what I intend to do. I also intend to finish up any repair jobs I have here and return them to their owners.

Following that, I will then reconsider if I wish to set up a new agreement to produce the CMD products. I can perform repairs on CMD products without being licensed, so I will at least do that. I have all the equipment and parts to repair CMD products for a very long time.
