A3000 floppy problem

Anyone ever have this problem with an A3000?

Previous tests:
(1) Moved the FB357A to another A3000. The drive is recognized as DF0:  Drive functions are OK.

Placed back into problem A3000 unit.
(1) Workbench screen denotes DF0:
(2) Floppy disk in drive initializes. But DF0: and another disk drive Icon is present.
(3) The drive is being recognized as DF1:

Motherboard jumpers are the same on both A3000's.

Did you just move the drive across, or the cable too?

Check the jumper setting on the drive.
Is it set for DF0 or DF1, also which plug
on the ribbon cable do you have it plugged
into?? I'm pretty sure DF0 needs to be plugged
into the last connector on the ribbon cable.
I had this problem quite some time back
but it was just a matter of setting the jumper
correctly and plugging it into the right connector.

DF0: connect to the untwisted part of the cable, set jumper to DS0
DF1: connect to the twisted connector, try the jumper both ways. Should work with DS1 but I'm not 100% sure (it's been a while)

Oh, and remember to set the DF1 enable-jumper, unless the DF1 mechanism is high density!

This works differently to PCs where the twist functions as a drive select.. You have both drives as DS1 and many modern PC drives can't even be set to anything else without a soldering iron.

I did not swap drive cables. DF0 goes to the twisted pair. The drive is set as DF0, and the jumper is set to NO DF1. (I have several FB-357A's, and all test OK as either DF0 or DF1 in the other A3000).

Will swap the cable, and report back. To those that took humor, ho hum. To the exceptional few that gave advise, thank you.

Try a known good 34 way ribbon cable, the IDC crimps can become intermittent and cause such problems.

I have also repaired A3000s where the contacts in the IC sockets (mainly Paula and the CIAs) become intermittent and can cause such problems.
It would be worth reseating these devices if you haven't already.

Please try and connect the mechanism to the untwisted connector first! Remember DS0 on the mech (however I seem to remember that the Chinon mechs didn't have any markings on what jumper setting is what).

The problem has been corrected.

DF0 goes to the twisted pair. The drive is set to DS0.
DF1 goes to other connection. The drive is set to DS1.

On the back of the drive is a single jumper.
Looking from the back of the drive.
