Why compare the price/specs of an x86 computer to a new Amiga?

I find this piece of news interesting and we should be happy...no?

3-4 years ago we had nothing now we have SAMs and this new X machine from a-eon, is this bad?!

Actually, If you write xeon, this is what you get : "For all I know, you're spot on. Unfortunately, being a weak and feeble piece of Javascript, I didn't understand. Sorry."

Well, just tried again with another answer... same reply. Sorry.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm happy! Like I read in another post not too long ago, it's like watching a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

"If their idea of a good computer is in any way like their idea of a good looking website, we're all doomed. "

ha ha ha ha ha ha that's true. I'm so used to rinky dink websites when dealing with this whole New PPC Amiga / Os4 subject I didn't even consider the site design. (present website excluded from comment as it's rocks)

I was thinking...the whole puzzle thing is almost making fun of the community in a way. A tease... after all the hell loyal Amigans have been through.

How about this:
Price of fully configured system or just motherboard.
Availability
Dealers
Software Developers with confirmed titles
VIDEO of the thing booting OS4
Speed Comparison using Legacy software running on this hardware.

For inspiration visit http://www.apple.com

Cheers!

Answer to one of the riddles. (I think)

To start, just look at the very first page, - the letter X

To follow, begin where Nemo entered into a rage. - still not sure but guessing a word starting with M. Maelstrom perhaps? Based on the ending of 20,000 leagues.

Then add to that what the Phoenicians used to see, - Orb

The end was found, fricatively wound, in the branches of the very first tree. - Snake

My whole was born in a place where a Celtic river was by Saxons, crossed, - The city of bristol, a saxon city on the river Avon (celtic for water)

A new incarnation of a parallel, once thought lost. - a new incarnation of the Transputer

Answer XMOS XCore. http://www.xmos.com/technology/xcore

Now to sit and wait for someone on aw.net to borrow my answer without citing the source.

incredibly fast!

How about that? That'd be the usual way Amiga hardware was 'announced' - IMHO Hyperion / A-Eon are doing a pretty good job right now. As far as current info indicates, we're bound for a system far beyond anything we've ever (nearly) seen. Probably faster than a Peg2 and much better to expand (socketed CPU?): multi-core, 4 RAM sockets for lots of gigs, 64 bit?, possibly (optional?) ECS/AGA compatibility - I do hope it's affordable.

I don't see any support for external ram for the XCore, let alone DDR 2 (3)

It's not the main CPU.

That's because it isn't the main CPU.  It's part of Xena/Xorro.  The main cpu is a PA Semi cpu :)

That was my guess too (pwrficient), based on 5 mins googling and a quick appraisal of the apparently supported features. However, since apple now own it, how are they supposed to acquire them?

I'm very excited for the final information. I remember when NewTek had to reinvent themselves and move away for the Amiga Video Toaster Flyer. Today they are very successful with their TriCaster line which has the heart and spirt of the Amiga Video Toaster 4000 on steriods. It's time for the Amiga under Hyperion to reinvent itself too.

Very interesting thought - would explain the 'core number is not what you think' bit. Together with a MPC8640D DC MPU (1.25 GHz @ 21W!) it would make quite a nice platform. Reminds me of the A3500 DSP approach.

Humm...a computer that has not one but many processors? The Xcore/other cpu combo theory would make sense.   The first Amiga was based on mutiple chips doing a specific job and speaking to each other while PCs and alike worked on the basis of giving all the tasks to the CPU. (its just brain storming, no nerdy-techno flames needed plz)

A machine like that could surely bust into the market if its programmable and modifiable on the fly when new apps/idea are found.

Could this computer be made compatible for say..playing the latest PC games whitout being a windows PC while keeping your favorite apps on AmigaOS?  Best of both worlds?  Who drugged my coffee?  ;)
